respect is one thing.. that i do
but not the 5 dollar thing
i dont even think its enough to pay your water bill
yet alone your meals
just imagine abc company pays the model 1 mil for a shoot
photog 5 dollars...
it absurd just to think of it
yup,i agree with you.

Good thread,at least i know i'm not under charging for product shoot.
if $5 for small products,1 shoot per product no DI or whatever is still an ok price.

Shooting household products like shampoo, soap, toothpastes, toothbrushes for those supermarket discount coupons?

Wow! $5 per shot! :o
How can one survive with these kind of rate?
I used to charge $90 per shot.

This is why I closed my photography business and go into trading business.

Even these kind of job, one should charge at least $30-$50 per shot.

I think u take my words too serious, relax.
I am just making fun of that photographer.:)

i know ...
sorry if i sounded too harsh or something :embrass:
but they have to know that
they are the man/woman behide the scene( in this instance picture)
if model can receive hell alot of money
why cant you
btw you are the one that determines the final outcome...
what can they do without the photog
biz needs to advertise..
just imagine a company trying to sell a product without you

It just came to my knowledge that one potential client of mine was quoted $5/product for a product shoot.
Its a simple shoot that needs not much styling, however it does some effort and listen to this, worldwide media release, 48mb Tiff files, Full DI and client has 30 products.
It really sad the way things are coming to nowadays. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :thumbsd: We are all just killing ourselves... :bsmilie:

Hello A.A,

Honestly, it's surprising the fees could have drop so fast and so low. I think one of the main reasons why many photographers are charging a super low price is because they are new and they need to build a portfolio by either shooting for free or for a very low price. I am quite sure that many of us in the business did a little of that in the early days. This is quite unavoidable due the lack of education through high level internship (2 to 3 years) or a formal photography business course. Hence shooting for low/free fees, they will feel that it's the only way to get that portfolio and credentials. (Please note that I am not justifying this method, I am just stating an observation)

Also there a many new photographers coming into the scene compared pre-digital days, so there will be more of these stories.

Best
Wesley

don't worry so much... how long do you think a person who takes $5 per shot including DI is gonna last in the business if that person continues this kind of pricing? :)

hmm.. just examples to prove my point
i mean there a whole bunch of advertisements
in mrt... in shopping centre
can they actually do without advertisment.. ;)
im sure you know how much those guys who kick the ball around the field earn

hmmm... its the advertisers at the end earn. and they do not publish whose photographs they use. so in the end... advertising firm earns the most and gets publicity.

photography industy here in singapore is very different from what we see or experience in the states or even the uk.

i do agree...
advertising is indeed a powerful tool
but aren't the photogs/designers the one doing it

so isnt it not right to know your worth...
$5 is a no go for me...

no go... i support you.

$5000 la... tell them add 3 more "0" inside.

30X5000 = 150000

international brand.... 150000 isnt alot la...

think of the returns they will get... its not by the 0000s, its by the 000,000's or even 0,000,000's :bsmilie:

the ad agencies earn the margins... if they can get by with the cheapest photography option they will use it... look at today's BMW ad... they are advertising the latest model of a convertable 3 series, but they are using an ancient photo of the Singapore CBD skyline... no One Raffles Quay or One Fullerton or new Merlion park never mind, UOB building also don't have... ;)
