A fellow resident in Tanglin Halt who has been living here all her life, she was sweeping away fallen leaves in front of her unit when I approached her and ask if I can take a photo of her... and as I walk about this estate, I hope the character built over many decades will survive the impending renewal.

Hi,

I LOVE your shots. You have some of the best local street captures and compositions I have seen so far, and I hope you keep shooting.

I would just like to ask ... with such strong captures, is there a reason you do not make them grittier? This is something I notice a lot with local photogs - our artistry ends with technical post (all enhancement adjustments, BW, cropping). Is there a reason we do not push to make them grittier?

Super contrast / Grain / Super shadows / Super highlights ...

I know in the photog community in general (globally not just locally), the issue with extreme post-pro is contentious. Some decry it as trying to mask terrible photography, some embrace it as part of the pack of photogs' expression ...

It's just that I notice the huge absence of it in Singapore.

Thanks for your very kind words, much appreciated...

For PP, i personally do not believe there is any given set of rules, grittier/ flatter/ hi-lo keys/ others etc are all very personal to each photogs, for me, PP is like putting a tune to a lyric or vice versa so i try to work on my compo first by keeping the subject simple and for my PP i try to get viewers to see what i like them to see/focus on.

Photography or its final product is really an artistic expression i feel and there is no standard answer to expression, just which audience perhaps the photogs wanna reach out to.

Hope you will keep shooting too and will see more of yours soon... :)

I hope to be competent enough to share soon too. I'm literally newborn to photography and still learning basic techniques, so don't want to waste anyone's time ... unless perhaps for critique.

Yup, agree that PP is completely personal. Just curious about why there is a noticeable absence of that type of expression locally.

But I still love your series - don't stop shooting!!!

Fantastic shots, iluvs90. Each moment was captured aptly, and almost like it's telling a story. Thanks for sharing.
