Streets and Moments : Capturing the Resonance.

#30 - Centre of Attention : This kid had the most charming of expressions when I saw him thru my viewfinder. The added elements of the elderly men all looking at him made it an interesting shot to capture.

If you observe carefully also
Everyone else's faces
are darker by 1/3 or more stops of exposure

Very nicely shot with the boy's face radiant.

Shizuma>>>. Yeah! The sun was highlighting him perfectly! I wad lucky to gave been looking thru the viewfinder at that moment!
Thanks for dropping by!

I think the pictures are a good start to your street journey.
They lack the punch & story telling feature, might want to look into that.

Thank you for dropping by and offering that tip. I shall look into improving the story telling aspect.

I believe that this would come under the "composition" aspect of photography. I am currently reading some books on composition which I believe will expand my knowledge on making a good photograph. Would you happen to know of any other particular resources That I can explore to develop the aspect of storytelling, which you have specifically highlighted, further?

Many thanks!

Two pics from some relatively uneventful photowalks the past week...

#61 - Doorway

This couple was relaxing and enjoying a mid afternoon coffee at their own pace. The scene just ahead of them through the gaps in the pillars painted a contrasting picture of a busy pedestrian walkway. The serenity coupled with and contrasting with the busy movement was a moment I wanted to capture.

#62 - Looking Back

This man (a tourist) was standing in front of the picturesque scene of the low rise Clarke Quay buildings. The way he was looking across the Singapore Rive and at the buildings inspired me to present this interpretation of the scene.

Gosh it felt good to go out, walk again and shoot the streets. After a lengthy one month break from street shooting, I managed to hit the streets and capture some moments which resonated with me.

Btw, the past two weeks I had the chance to push my 650D to its limits when by shooting at low light conditions at a birthday party and another time at a musical. The 650d struggled! I had to maintain ISO at 1600/3200 and stay wide open at 2.8. Even then I was only capturing shots at 1/15s. So the bright conditions of street shooting were indeed a welcome. And of course, a 5dmkIII that my colleague was using to capture the musical has caught my eye..... Hehe....

Here are the photos from my photowalk...

#63 - Gold Dust

My favourite photo of the day. There was some construction going on at Little India. And three workers were carrying out their own tasks. But this guy in particular caught my eye. He was perched on a ledge on the second floor and welding away. What held my attention further were the beautiful golden sparks that he caused during the welding. Much like Rumplestilskin, I would say!

#64- Shopping in style

This lady was rather elegantly sitting and waiting with her shopping bags on either side and presented me with a really nice photo opp. Her sense of fashion (Not many can pull of a hat) and her demeanor was worth a capture. Unfortunately, I didn't realize a sliver of a railing had crept into my frame. Alas!

#65 - Hello! Kitty.

This absolutely adorable little girl jumped out of her dance studio and stopped short of colliding into me. She stood rooted in the ground before she flashed an apologetic smile and twirled around and scooted off into her studio. Kids! Haha...

#66 - Racing My Shadow

Racing my Shadow by Norman Selvaraju, on Flickr

I saw this dude at SMU running to catch the traffic light. It looked to me like he was running a race he could never win. His shadow had a good lead on him give that it was 6+ in the evening and he was running due East.. Haha..

#66 - No Onion No Cry

No Onion No Cry by Norman Selvaraju, on Flickr

This worker was sorting onions at a pace very much in tune with the lazy Friday afternoon tempo of the surrounding shops. The bright colours caught my eye and I snapped away.

#67 - Twisted

Twisted by Norman Selvaraju, on Flickr

My fav shot of the day. I liked how the person was standing, with her one leg twirled around the other. I loved the lighting on the tile behind her from the setting sun that highlighted her legs.Makes you wonder about the face behind that board.

#68 - Assistance

At the Tanglin Halt Neighbourhood, one would chance upon the elderly in general who make up for the large part of its demographic. Here is a capture of the fragility of age.

#69 - Confessional

Confessional by Norman Selvaraju, on Flickr

The church at Tanglin Halt offered many splendid photo ops. The scene that I really wanted to capture was the rows of confessionals along one end. Each booth had sunlight streaming in offered a view of the booth within. My interpretation.

#70 - Man-o-Faith

Man-o-faith by Norman Selvaraju, on Flickr

Caught this old priest taking a break in between performing rituals. He had a hard and grumpy look fixed on his face as I snuck a shot of him. But I bet he's the the life of the party at the temple, when he is not being photographed.

#71 - Bless you, child.

Bless you, child by Norman Selvaraju, on Flickr

Children find the rituals of prayer more of an entertainment than anything else. That innocence where everything awes/humours you is something precious. Hold on to it as long as you can. Bless you, child.

Did you tried to befriend him? Don't be surprise if you are granted "exclusive photography pass" to the temple's event once you get to know him or others in that particular temple. That look in the pic will also change :)

wolfton >> I'm sure he is a friendly guy. The priests there usually are very approachable especially to unfamiliar faces. But I would rather take a photo of them in their element. Unposed. Candid. A little more raw and real. Haha.. But exclusive photo pass would be really cool. Shall go with a print of the photo the next time I visit! Seeing his expression on the photo should lighten the mood.

While our on a walkabout with my new kit, I had the opportunity to sit across from this nice lady with a friendly demeanor who kept commenting on how nice the noodles from this particular stall was. Out came my camera to snap this moment of her and her noodles.

I haven't been shooting streets much (at all in fact). And I have a ton of unpublished and unprocessed photos in my archive. While cataloguing, I came across this one from my trip to Sri Lanka.

One man was giving another some tidbits, right where there was a sign on the wall that said distributor. The shady market area made my mind go into creative overdrive. Hence the title.

Yet another from Sri Lanka.

This one is on the hike up to Little Adam's Peak at Ella, a small mountain (or hill).

On the way up, we chanced upon several youths having a jolly good time cycling. These guys were quite cheery and no strangers to camera apparently. The joys of youth - and betel nut leaves.

#75 - Lightray

I liked how this man was completely shrouded by the shadows when he was in the shade of the building and then got bathed by the light the moment he stepped out.
