Street shooting in Bhaktapur Nepal.

I was in Nepal this past Sunday for business, and lo and behold,
there was a hindu day of festival and my business meeting was scheduled for monday.

I hired a driver to the nearby ancient town of Bhaktapur and
spent about 90 mins street shooting the processions and festivities going on.

The time was around 5pm. The light was a f8-f11 with dark shadows around f4-f5.6.
I turn the aperture rind to f8 and turn the focus ring to place the infinity to the
DOF scale on the right sitting ontop of f8.

This meant that everything from 2.3metres onwards to infinity would be focused.
As for the various light source, I decided that the shutter speed would be the
only variable that i will change.

In other words, my M4-P with 35mm Summicron became a Point and Shoot camera with
only the shutter speed as the variable. Everything else would be at f8 and shoot from
2 metres out.

The film used was Fuji Neopan 400 (bought cheap for 35usd for a pack of 20 on freestyle photo)
The shutter speed would alternative between 1/1000 all the way to 1/60 and even 1/30.

All developed in D76 at 1+1 dilution, mostly at 4mins 30seconds at room temperature water.

I cropped a bit and adjusted for contrast. (the pictures are brighter but I like the dark textures better)

Here are some sample pictures from the trip. you can view the album here:

Bhaktapur is gonna be in our itinerary as well! But I think we will be taking the bus there, a local bus, to rub shoulders with the locals & shoot in the bus! hehehehe

Beautiful shots of Bhaktapur in B&W!
This ancient city is indeed very flavourful. One would not get enough of the scenes there.
Lovely!

Damn nice!
Nepal...Nepal...

I love Nepal..... have done 4 trips there... In fact in 2003 I spent 117 DAYS there !!!!

It's an Incredible place...... AND remember..... Kathmandu has more heritage sites than any other place on earth - one reason alone to visit.

Thanks for all the comments.

Nepal is a nice place, a poor country with friendly down to earth people.

For the Bhaktapur tour, i paid a whopping usd 50:

$30 for 4 hour car, (20 for non-air conditioned car LOL)
$15 for entrance to the temples
$5 for a hour + of tour guide.

but the photos are priceless :)

Hmmm... think we'll prob do the proper local way & catch a bus from Thamel station to the Bhaktapur, must try local bus ride

RWC, I thought you were making arrangements through Alex's contact to charter the Royal Nepalese army helicopter! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie: Now I find out we are going by the local bus. Traveling with you is going to be an adventure, like going on a Indiana Jones ride.

guys, what gear do you intend to bring for your nepal trip ?

light or prepared ? and what film ?

Hahahaha!

M2 + M3, 50mm F1.5 Nokton & 21mm F2.8 Avenon

Thats it... 60 rolls of film to burn? Havent thought of shooting color, prob just stick to B&W

So envious.. Yes bring 60 roll shld be enough. Divide by number of days you are on holiday and see if the daily quota is ok for you. That is how i measure no of rolls needed.

Eh i think hor....bring some color film good lar.

Nepal supposed to have some nice colorful spots.

Dont forget GRD3. Must take picture of M2 and M3 in Nepal also haha

niceee.......
