Will update you guys. For now the bag is still with police, being held in case it needs to be used for evidence. If what the inspector described was accurate, what is sold is:

30D
Kit lens
50mm f/1.8
Tamrac Toploader
iPod
Earphones
Lowepro LC1S lens pouch

Just curious,

Sorry for say this (touch wood)

what if you cannot recover back your items, what can you do to the suspect ? Sue them to pay you back ? Can it be done ?

So sad for you ..... i know how you r feeling ...damned!
My tripod set stolen/lost about a year ago and it still hurts for me ...

I think if he sue the thiefs... the thiefs can declare bankrupt and nothing you can do.... they go to jail and you still have to pay a portion of the lawyer fees... bad deal..

Hi Caleb,

I'm happy for you, fo getting all the stuff back!

Bloody idiots, stealing something and sold them for a meagre $80, and risk getting arrested for all these....stupid fools!

Well, I think the police will eventually return everything to you, once they've verification done.

Think the theifs are obviously silly, don't even know the rough price of the 30D.
probably becoz they didnt surf CS ...:bsmilie:

the dumb a**es. i bet they kept the ipod because that's probably the only thing they barely know how to operate.
no la... they sold the ipod and probably bought a zen ....:rolleyes:

Any CCTV in the LAN shop ?
If yes, see if they can spot the culprit.

Sorry for your loss of gear...

Most LAN places require patrons to register NRIC, student pass etc before using PCs...
Maybe can get the authorities (eg: police) to check the 'guest' list..?

Just a suggestion,
Ally

Ok I think everyone's kinda confused.

To clear things up:

1. The culprits are caught and will be charged soon.
2. The bag was recovered. However,
3. The camera, lenses, iPod and earphones were sold, along with the lens pouch and tamrac toploading case. Basically the valuables were gone.
4. Currently the bag, and whatever's left in it, is with the police, being held as evidence.

gone forever ? or can u buy them back from that shop ?

Probably can't buy back, as the shop sold it discounted, but still could pull in a huge profit. Imagine, they buy it for $80. Can sell 400-500 below market rate and still make a profit.

not true.

If you want to recover the value of the stolen items in monetary value, you need to sue the theives in a Civil Suit. which you may not win because zhangyb has mentioned the possibilities. Unless their parents are rich, then you might win and they'll even pay your legal fees.

In a criminal case, as long as the accused is prosecuted, end of story. You'll only get back what the Police has recovered.

next time, learn from your lesson and keep your stuff close to you.

Lets hope that the theives repent and learn as well. Maybe you can get a new D80 or 30D replacement. :)

Do u know which shop they sold it too?

If u know, why dun u just approach them to negotiate a price....cos selling stolen group is also a crime....

The shop cannot feign ignorant, if they have purchased it for just $80 right?

Caleb, sometimes bad things happen to nice folks. This is a cheap lesson that will be more useful than losing say, a car or house keys with an address affixed. Of course, one could do without the pain, but if there's no pain, there's no learning. Never take your valuables for granted.

Agreed. Thanks.
