If I use center point to focus, press n hold shutter half way n recompose, my focus will run away also, how to fix the focus at initial position?

Perhaps you did not set the half-press of the shutter release to trigger focus lock?
Or you set the camera to AF-C (continuous - looking for moving object)
Or.....

I'm using D90, in the AF- A mode. I read from somewhere that I need to press the AF-L button beside the view finder. But I found that it is not easy to keep my camera stable when I press the shutter half way n the AF-L button together, is there other way?

I don't think you absolutely need to press the AF-ON button (I think that's the one you're referring to) which is located beside the VF. If you set the shutter release half-press to activate focus lock (in the menu somewhere. Will check tomorrow if nobody else has replied yet), you should be all set.

i've never used AF-A on my D90, only S and C

Use the AutoFocus -Single mode when you wan to recompose.

Pg 57 of the D90 manual:
AF-A and AF-C autofocus modes: With the shutter-release button pressed halfway, press the AE-L/AF-L button to lock both focus and exposure.

.
AF-S autofocus mode: Focus will lock automatically when the in-focus indicator appears, and remain locked until you remove your finger from the shutter-release button. Focus can also be locked by pressing the AE-L/AF-L button.

So I guess no choice... gotta use AF-S mode if you want the half-press of shutter release to lock both exposure and autofocus.... :dunno:
Maybe someone has a workaround...
