Steve McCurry caught

yap, really disappointed. it brings a new meaning to the phrase: pros don't take a photo, they make one(:

If you believe his explanation, he didn't even made those photographs.

Credibility destroyed overnight

If you believe his explanation, he didn't even made those photographs.

Whatever it is, at his level of professionalism, he has to take full responsibility. Doesn't matter who did the Photoshop blunder.

Just like professional sportsmen who were got caught with doping. They may or may know they were given the banned drugs by their doctors or therapist. They got to take full responsibility.

These "improvements" done by the sacked technician. Was the technician under instruction or he did them on his own?

Well this is 'digital reality' even a great lens man will fall prey to it.

He should have stuck to film I guess...now we know why the AP made their jpeg sooc only announcement a few months back.

No one will ever know until he says the whole story

No solution. Even in the early ages of film photography people edited pictures, removing persons or other objects.

If he would have just came out and said it is art he'd probably be okay but instead he throws someone else under the bus...if I were a pro PJ I would be p!ssed. It stinks..really bad.

He is a curry man.

I find that I can take his answer. (at face value anyway)

We have elevated some photographers to a point of godhood and this is the result. (the McCurry's; the Kelby's; etc)
He/They are no longer just photographers, but a product.
As such, this product has a backend doing a lot of stuff that we ordinary mortals would have to do ourselves.

and if they do fail, it's spectacular.

More like let's see how much money we can make off of a 'brand' never mind that I instructed one of my talented hacks to pretty up the picture just pay $1000 for your print please. I'll get someone to sign my name to it also.

The famous photo journalist turns into an infamous PS hacker.

I still say he probably couldn't have got away with it in the film days...it would be to difficult to remove that many elements from any given scene I think. Look at some of those pictures again...bushwhacked!

"I believe that the picture should reflect exactly what you saw and experienced when you took the picture. I don't think you should have any adjustments in terms of photoshop kind of garnish colors and I want to just capture life as it is, without really interfering and I want to reflect reality actually."

:dunno:
