ok the D40 doesn't have any provision for a real vertical grip unlike the higher end models. So those 3rd party manufacturers came up with a workaround solution which is to use the wireless remote capability of the D40 to trigger the shutter. So they built a wireless remote into the grip and also gave u a bigger batt to boot.

does it go back to normal shooting mode after a shot is fired from the infa red mode? the d70/s battery grip goes back to normal shooting mode immediately and it is bad. very bad

but one thing to do note, i don think there is 1/2 press for that shutter button... maybe TS can clarify. :dunno:

yes it doesn't half press and tht's the main disadvantage of th egrip, however it compensates you by focusing automatically as you press the shutter. At least you image is focus but you can't compose your shots.

On my side, I wont bother because

1. If the client reject you because of camera... =.= I rather don't have the client. OR if really need, I'll pull out trusty old D2x.

2. Holding camera vertically not a big problem, in fact was never a problem.

3. Since use IR to trigger the camera, you cannot auto-focus lock and recompose. Very bad.

4. IR mode max 15min, you have to turn it on again every 15 min. If you blur blur take photo non-stop, you can forget to turn on the IR again after 15 min.

Btw snapperz, you use THREE STANDBY EN EL9? :dunno:

well on some parts i agree with you, but on the other hand its matter of how you want to adapt to using the grip and maximising it.

hmm.. u might not believe this, whenever the vertical grip goes on board my D40 i only use one EN-EL9. YES only one! hahaha.. miriculously the grip enable you to work with only one EN-EL9 and it performs to th emax with jsut one battery... but if you choose to use AA battery your shots will be limited. ;)

Me dunno leh. Big camera company dinner and dance I used only ONE EN EL9 for six hours of shooting.

Havent the faintest idea how you manage to need 3 batteries (you use on-camera flash? :dunno:)

Yap, a spare EN EL9 battery would be more than enough.

those extra batteries are jsut for back ups, i dun use them all at once.. hahaha... i myself find it wierd is i use all of it. I travel alot so tht'll explain why i need the batteries cos i'm just too lazy to bring the charger...;)

oh ya not forgetting i'm using a SB-800. built in flash works for me too cos i have a built-in diffuser for it too and thus not making my subjects harsh.

cheers!

Use remote control to trigger? ohoh, you better hope that no one else is using remote control nearby too!!!

But by using the remote control, that means cannot use AF-Lock?

Correct.

waait... where does the battery cover goes to

ya don't know how to not really possible :dunno:

Just tilt the battery cover 45 deg or lesser (need to trial and error) then slowly pull out the cover. This method applies across the board with any other Nikon DSLR ;)

so how, able to import one for me.?
