First shot of the year, bad things happened as explained below.

Heart Of Ubin

3 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + 2 image panorama to relief visual proportion on right side. Palau Ubin, Singapore.

An off shore quarry island North East of Singapore, I was really off to a bad start...

Hoping to see the first sunrise of 2013 at Palau Ubin, there was no sun at all to welcome 2013, as it rained on the last day of the year. Secondly, I suffered deep cuts on the palm of my hand as I slipped and fell, hitting on those rocks. It bled terribly and I had to stop shooting. This has never happened to me before in all my outings. I should be careful or probably invest one of those kind of shoes that grip on surfaces like these, or fisherman shoes as advised by one of my friends.

Hopefully the rest of the year won't turn out like this. Hopefully not a sign of bad things to come.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I wear diving booties when I plan to venture into the surf. However, my experience is that no footwear can guarantee that you will not slip on the slippery rocks+algae. You can only take small steps and be careful. I use my extended tripod as a walking stick as well to help stabilise myself, but still fell flat on my butt once. Luckily for me the worst I had to suffer was some laughter from nearby fishermen!

Moral of the story - wear good shoes and use a walking stick by all means. But sometimes sh*t happens! :) get well soon!

Hi Stuck, thanks for your input. :) Well honestly, I've never fell before in any of my landscape outings. I always wear the same pair of sandals (Actually, the sandals is the problem) and so far nothing bad ever happened. I realised the rock I stepped on was shaped like a wedge with a upward sloped gradient that caused my slip and fall episode to happen. It was camouflaged in a way that it looked as though it was part of the gravel. Anyway it was my fault that I wasn't careful. I could've averted it by walking along side it. But yeah I agree, no one's perfect and sh!t happens too. :bsmilie:

Yeah at times I do use my tripod as means of support too like a walking stick. :)

Well, I went to Labrador yesterday. I can tell you it's really hard to handle the camera and filter especially with a bandaged palm. :(

Heaven And Earth

5 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + ND 0.9 x2 stacked to achieve 6 stops for smoothed water effects. Labrador Park, Singapore.

I've decided to go for a slightly overexposed, contrasty and harsher post-processing tone in this shot to convey the idea a little better.

Went to Labrador this time when the tide is low @ 0.5m. Sure, I couldn't get any waves like I always do but some long exposure would be great. The weather wasn't really super fantastic but the clouds were uber awesome!

Initial plans were to use the Lee Big Stopper for smoothed cloud effects but that didn't blend with the idea of the rocks and the sky that look as similiar. So I used fast shutter instead.

Perhaps there was a little mistake here of me not removing the stacked ND filters; as you can see the clouds look soft caused by the resulting long 10s exposure. You know it's pretty hard to handle gear carefully when your left palm is bandaged all round it and your right hand has to handle extra tasks after the falling incident at Ubin.:(

Life as A Hobbyist

2 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.6 hard + ND 0.9 x2 stacked to achieve 6 stops for smoothed water and cloud effects. Labrador Park, Singapore.

I couldn't think of a title for this shot, so might as well explain how I feel through this image.

Just shooting to enjoy the moment - the clouds, the scenery, the sea breeze, the feeling is awesome as a landscape shooter and trying hard to create some art out of it -- with any luck.

Initial plans were to do a 2 image pano to relief right side spatial proportion but there was another fellow photographer just beside me also enjoying his moment. :)

This guy has got some really awesome gear in his arsenal; he has a 14-24mm lens with 150mm wide specialised LEE GND filters on a Nikon D800E, mounted on a super big Gitzo tripod. Coupled with wireless remote timer and flash for foreground. Wonder how his image will look like.

last one from Labrador before heading back home. :)

Lost Beauty

2 Image HDR/DRI ranging from f16 @ 120s and f20 for skies and foreground @ 240s with no filters. Labrador Park, Singapore.

I keep getting queries by my own friends and relatives if the seascape pictures I took were genuinely in Singapore, because all they ever think about in this country are HDBs, malls, skyscrapers and ERPs everywhere. And I keep telling them there are alot of lost or hidden natural treasures that no one seem to have any clue about. Labrador I feel is just one prime example. It's something forgotten and no one seem to realise, until time fades it away, unnoticed and neglected.

This is practically why the whole idea it was intentionally shot overexposed and ghostly. Time is fading it away, merely lost. The lamps' yellow lights are the only elements from the jetty to remind us of such existence. Currently in the hands of relevant authorities, the fate and future of Labrador remains to be seen.

Anyway I love Labrador not only the interesting rocks but because of this magnificent jetty that extends out from the coastline. A shot of Labrador without the jetty is an understatement.

Well I had flu for the weekend and I wasn't in the best of my shape to shoot anything (And I heard there was an awesome sunset on a Saturday) :(... So here's a simple Behind the scenes shot to keep the thread alive. :) This one's at Bishan Park.
