Think you have to aim it directly at the North Star.

Lovely image!

It'll be nice for akailim to explain the process of making his star-trail photo. With a short photo-essay to go along, makes the readers and viewers have more understanding of his work.

Wouldn't you agree akailim? :)

cannot be in singapore as we cannot see the north star here

and the north star is only 1deg above the horizon line in sg.. I doubt it was shot in sg.

judging by the tree and its branches... it doesnt look like SIngapore

Hi,

Look at the height of the Star trail's centre, it definitely not taken in Singapore.

Nice, but colour look a bit odd.

Have a nice day.

Hi weixing, you are right, the polar axis ( north star ) appears a little too high up....it could be in a northern hemisphere country about 30 degree latitude north?

But it is a good pic :)

The north star does not seem to be in the picture, so this could have been taken in the southern hemisphere.

12 hours exposure... Got the from a nat geo digital photography guide. I was wondering woudn't it have hot pixels.

This looks like a southern startrail and is definitely not taken in Singapore.

The colours look unnatural, so it seems like quite some processing was involved.

The exposure is 2 hours - if you measure the stars they travel about 30 degrees. A 12 hour startrails looks something like this! :http://www.universetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/img_4806-4933_640mred.jpg (warning. May spoil your eyes. :P)

Akailim, maybe you can share with us how this photo was obtained?

Thank you very much for viewing. Hope that this photo is to your liking.
Sorry that Im not going to explain too much on the technical details for this photo. It ain no secret but on my 2nd thought after some discussion with other friends I decided not too:sweat: Cause it may sadden or demoralize some from going out for night shoot. After all the intention was to inspire more photographer to shoot more at night. Let me simplify the progress of it. Exposures were made, it was than stacked and process through PS using the bending mode. The colour just turn out to be unnatural but it looks good to me:D It was taken with a Nikon D70. Once again, please forgive me:sweat:embrass:
