Even though it's a prime, the 50mm is a great lens to start with for it's sharpness, light weight, and low light ablilities. Shoot with it for a couple weeks and then decide if you want to go longer or wider.

50mm IS a great lense and I have yet to get mine.. waiting for oracle's stock to come
dry box is recommended, just get an el cheapo @ carrefour for approx 30+

Which is a good lens to start for newbie with tight budget and not sure what gonna shoot?
(coz ppl always ask what i shoot, and i don know, so, let say all purpose ?)

for those lens that come with fix focal length, does it mean no zooming stuff?
efs 18-55. costs 50 dollars used

yes fix focal length means no zoom

Erm... he's got a 10D, not the newer EF-S mount EOSes.

prime lenses are sharper than zoom in general.... but its at the expense of convenience....
but in my own opinion, a sharp picture matters more than anything else.... for me i only save up for prime lenses.... :)

if efs not ok.. then can try the EF24-85
