Stand Development with Polypan f and Kentmere film - a very short report

Hi,

just a short report. i have been shooting
Polypan F with one stop push to iso 100
as well as kentmere 400 pushed to 800.

for development, i have been using three
different types of developers (one at a time)
with some degree of success. Interesting thing
is that all three were developed at the
same development time and dilution.

Developers: HC-110, Rodinal, Ilford PQ Developer (this is a paper developer)
Tank: 2 Roll and 5 Roll Paterson Development tank
Temp: 30C (!)
Dilution: 1+100, ie. 3ml for 135 format and 5ml for 120 format.

Process:

1. Pre-soak for 1 min
2. Pour solution into tank
3. Agitate for 1min with 20 slow inversions, 3 sec = 1 inversion
4. Leave alone for 10mins
5. Agitate with 5 inversions
6. Leave alone for 10mins
7. Agitate with another 5 inversions.
8. Wash
9. Fix
10. Wash Longer
11. put a drop of liquid soap
12. slow fill to brim, pour
13. finger squeegee
14. dry

i am still analyzing the subtleties between the three developers. here are some pix:

All images were adjusted only for contrast, brightness and I added a border. Resized, of course....

Surprise that ur kentmere 400 with rodinal came out not as harsh as i have seen on flickr...

Kentmere came out better than i thought...i pushed kentmere iso100 5 stops(not becos i wanted to, but im only left with this film at that time)...and not wanting to kill the film with tonnes of harsh grains, i tried stand with the softest developer i had...HC110 Dil G
Im surprised how well it goes...

p.s if you buying any films...let me know if u need to share shipping..i can probably slot in some orders for bulk...

5 stops from iso 100 is iso 3200.... what are your dev times I wonder ?

4 stops, i took 50mins.

i took the plunge and tried Kentmere 400 exposed at iso 1600
and stand developed in Rodinal for 50mins at 30c (!).
The negatives came out a little thin.
Scanning revealed images that was usable but not as flexible as Tri-x.

in future, i would develop it longer to test whether i can get a richer negative.

here is an image, contrast, brightness adjusted + toning in Postproduction.

Amazing! Very brave to push an iso100 film by 4 stops. Nice results.

I find HC-110 better for pushing. Tried pushing tri-x to 1600 with rodinal, 1:100, 28 degrees, 60 minutes. Slow inversion at 30 min point. Negs came out really thin and too high a contrast. Also, there's surge marks running from sprocket holes to 1/5 of the images.

Personally, I gave up on stand development with rodinal.
