Makes me wonder, why don't the victim just turn round and bash her attackers up? Self-defense isa right granted to everyone in the first place.

she din even know how to scream for help..

i've seen the video as well and it's pretty childish actions from the bullies. and i also heard that it's the older sis that brought her there for the "punishment". so nowadays, the "ah lians" are getting so bored? hahaha. and the victim didn't wanna press charges as well. so there's nothing the police can do.

the police is looking into the matter, as a member of the public has reported the case to the police..

Unfortunately, the concept of u shoot an arrow, the arrow return to hit u in the back isn't popular with everybody thus half the world's still in chaos.

Its not abt purposely provoking an armed man (as in ur point, which is way out of point), but its abt the armed man purposely provoking u which u have 2 choices - Stand there and let him stab with a 100% probability OR put up a fight and ur chances of being stabbed being significantly reduced to 50%.

Govt courtesy campaigns are not applicable in troublemakers.

But if u're the bystander, your chance of getting stabbed will be from 0% to --> 50%. Which is not a good move...

So much have been talk about the victim who was beaten up but have anyone thought about her elder sister who started it all in the first place? The parents didn't push this case further most likely because the elder sister will be implicated as well if this have been made into a police case. That's most likely why the parents reach a "settlement". If nothing is done, either by the police or some drastic action by the parents, than the elder sister will get bolder over time, her sister will be victimize by the elder sister again, after all, she got away with it the first time.

Kudos to the public who made the complain. If these kind of girls/boys are not stopped, who knows who will be the next victim, it could be you/me/a friend/sister/brother.

I really hope the papers will follow up on this case if there is a police investigation.

its not for the victim to decide whether to press charges.

that decision is made by the attorney-general.. so if the police feel they have sufficient evidence of any offences, they can then refer the case to the AG.

Some of u might condemn me with my next remark, or even say that I'm heavily influenced by the 'decadent West' to 'abandon the basic Asian virtues of filial piety'.

But honestly, if it was me, I'd choose to report the incident. Never mind if it means dispensing justice to my own family members. When the Emperor commits a murder, even he is not above the law to escape the fate of being hanged. Much less ur own family member down to ur parents or ur siblings.

On one hand, it may seem that this 'selfless dispensing' of 'high-handed justice' is too much to bear on ur own family member. But den again, if it means nipping a future, potentially bigger problem in the bud, its worth every single minute in court and hope the sibling takes a turn for the better after his/her release.

When family discipline fails to take an internal rebellion on hand to task, the State takes over. In such a case where the elder's sister obviously out of control to tell her friends to gang up, bash her own sister over a dumb joke with condoms, film it down and distribute it all over the world, its obvious that the family had failed in discipline.

Next best thing would be for the State to handle it.

Agreed with you to a certain extend. It really depands on how out of control the child is.
I'm a parent myself, if this have happen to my children I'll have to ask my wife and myself:
1) is my child really out of control ?
2) is he/she a danger to others or her siblings ?
3) would reporting her to the police help in any way?
4) what would be the possibility of something like this happening again ?
5) is there any other way I can help her without her having a police record ?

We have to understand that sometime children do things without thinking of the consequence. It may seem "cool" to them at that time, peer pressure, just for the fun of it, or even just at the heat of the moment. Though I've posted the above 5 points, if something like this is to happen to my kids ( touch wood ), I'm not sure if I'll really do the right thing. But if she is really a danger to anyone and chances are this will happen again, than I guess I'll have no choice but to do something drastic about. Options may be to seek the help of the police to educate her ( get a policeman to talk to her and warn her about her actions ), arrange for her to visit a boy's/girl's home ( this kind of tour have been done before ), etc.

Sorry if my posting here are rather long, but things like this pulls a heartstring in me, I am after al, l a parent with small kids.
