St Andrew's Vs ACS (I)

hi.. are you covering for any of the school or a neutral shooter?

if you are covering, its understandable which side of the field you will stand at..

if you are just a neutral party shooting the event, try to stand at the side such that you will not shoot directly into the sun... shooting into the sun causes the players to be underexposed and some flaring (resulting in lesser contrast)..

:)

no not true.i was taking with the ACS(I) side(sigh...we lost after many years:() and i was facing the sun. but i was shooting in manual at f6.3 and 1/320 sec, around there and i got excellent results. you can try using spot or centered metering if you are taking people faces but try not to take the sky as the background if not it would be overexposed
:D

haha
thanks!
yeah i will be more selective next time (:
did u guys get any day offf?

i tthink he was taking about me....

raw emotions needed. :)

yeah i tried a few shots but they didnt come out too well
Only one came out alright

First thing that caught me was the side of the field you were standing at. But then again you don't want to be hammered by the AC so that's understandable. XD

Other than that, 200mm should be getting tighter shots than what you have posted up so far. To be blunt, it's like point-and shoot. There's no aim or target you wish to achieve.

Next time you go shooting sports like this, try to create drama by catching the tackles, the expressions showing the toughness of the players. I am a rugby player myself and I shoot rugby too, so I understand how hard it is. Go out with an aim to achieve rather than shoot pointlessly.

For reference purposes, you can look at this thread. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=501782

It's not shot by me, but it's a great set of photos. Hope you get some inspiration from here.

Keep shooting and have fun!

haha i didnt even see all the saints run into the middle of the field.
i went to find something
when i came back everyone was in the middle of the field
Haha
if you are covering the rugby finals for school, you should be on field at all times. unless it is really very urgent.

i shot close to 800photos. Selected only 4.
photos shot with Nikon D3 and Nikon 200-400mm VR on a monopod.

Basically, I think you need more crop and a point of focus in your photos. Also, I think you should try to avoid having too many people in your photos. It draws attention away from your subject(s) :)

Does that lens happen to be owned by you? If it is, it sure is a heck of an expensive lens.

Anywayz, #1 and #2 should be cropped tighter, focus on the subjects.

Most pics I see are underexposed. Also, from first post there appears to be some motion blur (subject?).

Comments welcome.

Good series Styric. A wider #13 with something like a 16:9 crop would've made it the perfect shot (:
