Wondering aloud, how would * s e n t i n e l s * change if the straight horizon becomes a vanishing non-horizon?.. would the bare tree stand out stronger as there is no horizon to cut across the tree? I am just thinking aloud. Thomas, would like to hear your views..

Regarding my thoughts on *sentinels*, yes, vanishing the horizon would be a very pleasant approach with a nice thick layer of fog in the BG hovering across the distance land.

With PP, it can be achieve what we want but it will be unreal and tedious as we are staying in SG.

I had alot of negative comments coming in regarding the SG coastal line which are 'busy' most of the time.

Composing the tree slightly off center (rule of 3rd) would greatly improve the view. For me, if there is another stronger subject in the distance land over the horizon can anchor the composition, then I will prefer off-center composition.

I believe photography is also an art form and it is good to be able to express our thoughts and feelings in the best possible way. BUT I still belong to the school where extensive PP to the extend of creating a totally new image is no-no for me.

Thomas - like this.. the streak of light on the building is wonderful.. especially since this is LE, the streak of light must be there (more or less same location) for a long period of time..

I thought of achieving darker contrast for *j e w e l * but cant due to the shadow clipping are too overwhelming.

Nonetheless, we got there at the best light...

I wonder how it looks like if we did something at the 1st archi spot we at and its not raining...it would be sweet if we manage a shot there...

Yes..that 1st spot really looked promising. I'm toying with the idea of going back to it on a quiet morning with the same weather condition, minus the rain of course.

Can I ask what is the better timing? I would always thought an early morning or late evening is best to achieve smooth silky water but you also achieve nice silky water during mid afternoon. I understand predominantly you use ND400, but do you ever stack 2 ND together (perhaps in mid afternoon). What is mostly your combination of filters?

Regarding the question; yes it's deliberately done in a way to work on the limited light n havin emphasizing on shadow to gives a moody n eerie atmosphere to d captured image.

Nevertheless, balance in light and shadow are still d priority before hitting d shutter as to obtain enough details in the midtone.

On the other hand, shadow can give a nice symmetrical reflection on which direction of light u working at to complete the overall compassion framing.

Keepin in mind to balance the light vs the shadow vs the reflection and with all this, retaining good details in mustiness without overblowing the highlights.

Regarding ur question, thr is no definately preferable time to work on long exposure. I prefer to work in the day time, thanks to d ND filters; as tat us the only time I hav n also able to see carefully what to work on.

However, thr are point to take note whenever u work in d daytime wit ND filters as the direction of light vs the angle of composition will result in banding; a defect. This happens when u compose ur subject with d light source at 15 to 45 degree. A reflected light frm the filter rim. I had couple of test done couple of days ago to confirm this findings.

Thus, it is beat to work with the light source behind u.

Yes, u can still achieve smooth milky water even during midday as am using 9 or 10 f-stops ND filter. At times when the light is too overwhelming, I will stack my ND's to give 12~14 f-stops to further reduce the light to achieve the desired exposure time. All these needs alot of patience.

Combination or filters, it depends on individual. In my bag, I own a b+w nd110, Hoya ndx400, Hoya nd4 n kenko cpl. My choice of combination varies as mentioned above.

Cool beans! I went for a shooting spree last Tuesday. Was at ECP in the morning till mid day, head to CBD to work on d spot we discussed before, to Canon SC for d 50mm prime servicing n ending up the day at sentosa. Brilliant outing n got myself sunburned. Lolz!

I will take time process those images as my notebook is not back n been busy preparing for business trip soon.

Well, hope u guys hav fun n catch up wit u boys when am back or manage to squeeze sometime before I leave town.

Don't mind another question.

I notice some of your photos are as long as 4 to 6 mins which means has to do manual calculation setting cam on B. Do you simply apply reciprocal calculation from metering firstly without the ND? Is there any reciprocity failure as in film or a pure reciprocal calculation suffice. Thanks again.

BTW, really need alot of patience esp in the mid day - kenna sunburn. Ha ha.
