Hi i am a real NEWBIE when it comes to photography. Anyway i am planning to go to New Zealand next week and thinking of gettting a digital camera which is good enough to take clear pictures as in when the pictures are developed they will look good. Yes yes i am a novice.. :> So my budget is ard 300-400 and so far for that kinda range i am thinking that the best option is to buy a canon powershot A40 rite??? ANd do u guys have any gd place to recommend where the digital camera is the cheapest or at least reasonable? Also, for my budget what brand and model do u think is the best choice... HeLp is greatly appreciated...thanks~

i'm not a digicam user so i really can't say much but from wat i read here. the a40 is really quite good. you can either get new or buy second hand here at clubsnap. ( got most of my stuff here and find that generally its in good condition and pple here dun try to con you as opposed to auction sites)

can try looking at www.dpreview.com to check out the cams

for buying, can try allan photo at sim lim or ms color at ang mo kio.

ms color has equotes so you can actaully ask for a price.

for both places, quote clubsnap or get a friend from cs to go down with you and u get better price ( i tired, it worked!)

hope its helpful, any seniors who know more than me pls correct me if the info here is wrong

hi

01. Budget? - $500-700
02. Megapixel count? - 3meg +
03. Optical zoom factor? 2x min
04. Size? - *** most important feature, smaller the better, prefer a pocketable camera
05. Type of batteries used? - no preference
06. Weight? - around 200g
07. Able to mount lenses/filters? nice to have but not critical
08. Manual controls required? shutter speed control
09. Auto-Focus Speed? as fast as possible?
10. What kind of pictures are you hoping to take? Scenery, architecture, house interiors, holiday shots

other considerations for me is *** to take movies with sound (pref 640x480 at 30fps), SD/XD media, video out, ***good low light capability, USB2.0 support if possible. i currently have a nikon coolpix800 but this camera has a few shortcomings - like bulky, a bit slow response, not so good at low light situations and no movie mode.. any recommendations? frankly i am looking at the fuji finepix M603, does anybody know the cheapest i can get this thanks! :D

Hi,

Noticed someone asking bout the Lumix F1. I am currently the user of such a camera and i would like to say that it takes generally good pictures. However, its manual functions though a notch up other point and shoot cameras, is not enough to render it anything more than a good auto camera.

For ladies, I would strongly recommend it for its form factor as well as ease of use. For guys, esp ppl like me who likes to fiddle around with gadgets, this unit does not really offer much room for exploration and pretty soon you will be itching to get something more in the class of cannon A70. ;p.

PROS
Form Factor
Response Speed
Picture Quality

CONS
Lack of higher level manual control

Here are some pix i took with the Panasonic DMC-F1, those interested in the camera can judge for yourself

I'm thinking Canon Powershot A70, Fuji S602 (2nd hand) or even a Canon S45...

My Canon S20 (one of the earlier digitals with 3.2meg) is about 4 years old now and I had no problems with the camera. If reliability and low maintenance is any issue, I think Canon is a good choice. The only issue I had with the camera was how much energy the camera used up with the LCD on. You may want to check around with how long a set a battery last with the LCD on. The S20 used disposable batteries that cost up to 15USD depending on the vacation spot I went to. The rechargable that came with the camera last about 45 min max, but then again I had the rechargeables for about 4 years as well.

Hope this helps.

01. Budget? (SGD600-800)
02. Megapixel count? (Not really care as long as >2MP)
03. Optical zoom factor? (Decent one)
04. Size? (Not really care abt it, bigger does not means more bulky)
05. Type of batteries used? (Can you tell me the disadvantage of a lithtium batt?)
06. Weight? (Not in consideration)
07. Able to mount lenses/filters? (Ya)
08. Manual controls required? (Ya)
09. Auto-Focus Speed? (Decent)
10. What kind of pictures are you hoping to take?

Another thing, wat do you guys think? Fuji S304 or Nikon 4300 better?

I used F1 before. I would agree that its picture quality is good.
I have some pictures posted at the link below too... ;)

I has difficulties taking night photo with it through the LCD, as it doesn't quite display correctly. Often too dark compared to your final results. Need to use the optical viewfinder sometimes.

There's a thread on the Olympus discussion that's saying that Olympus is having a digital camera promotion.

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38405

pretty good prices for mid range DC. I am thinking of getting either a C730 or C740. Can anyone tell me the main difference between them? Which one shd I get?

For mid range DC, is there other brands/models I should consider?
Anything except Canon... dun really trust the brand anymore (no offence, just personal preference!).

My budget is abt $500-700 for a 3.2 mega-pixels with at least 3 optical zoom (though Olympus 700 series is offering 10X for my budget, if looking at the promo prices). Manual functions a must. Style and weight not important. Pictures taken will be people, scenery and street life/candid.

Thanks for any help!
