I usually shoot with a 24mm prime, I hope that is good enough. Seems like I'll have to think about getting faster films for the museums.

I'm seriously considering chucking the tripod at home now, considering the limited opportunities to put it to full use. U mentioned that it's possible to chuck the tripod at the entrances to the sites, I assume they have facilities like lockers there?

Any particular reasons why the 200mm is essential? Sometimes I'm just plain lazy or reluctant to pull out the old 28-200, given it's bulk, weight, and speed. I usually alternate between the 24mm prime and the 50mm prime.

I think 24mm is good enough. But you do need a tele-lens. Because Egpyt is a hot place for travellers. Every tourism place is crowded! So you need a tele lens to exlude those peoples out of your frame. In my frame, you may feel that the Pyramid and Temple are quiet. Actually it is not the case, if you move a little bit out of the frame, you will see dozens of "heads" I like to use wide-angle but after i came back, i feel the 70-200 is a good rang to give you more visual impact! Just bring a light lens, i think 28-200 is good for travel. Although on the technical data chart, it may not as good as the bulky 80-200/2.8, it does not mean you can not make good photos with it For tripod, unless you want to take some night view.otherwise, you can leave it here.. or you can bring a monopod with you, it may help when you in Temples...

Another suggestion is to bring some BW films. Personally i regretted that i only took 4 rolls of BW. Take some "culture theme" photos for Egyptians and their everyday life... That will you photos different from those Travel Posters... Happy shooting in Egypt. Waiting for your exciting photos!!

Woah, nice photos Eric! I went to Egypt too last year, but your photos are so much better! I quite paiseh to take pictures of the locals cos after trying a few times (and getting hounded and asked for money after I took a photo of them, I just stopped taking pictures of them...)

Anyway sin, I brought along my 24/2.8, 50/1.8 and 105/2.8. The 24/2.8 got lots of use, as you need it to take the pyramids, temples etc. The 50 saw some use too, especially in the museums, and the 105 the least use of all, though I did use it a bit.

Be warned that there are lots of X-ray machines in Egypt.. at the entrance of most museums and some temples. I bought only low speed film (100, 200) so the X-ray didn't bother me as much and I didn't bother asking for hand inspection.

I didn't bring my tripod over so I don't really know about tripod permits, but I did bring my monopod, which I brought out when I anticipate that the tour visit is going to stretch into the night (yup, was on tour too!), and didn't have any trouble with at the only temple I brought it too.

Do note also that nights are rather chilly (its a desert after all!) so bring a sweater.

Hi! Justarius has addressed a lot. It is very useful i think! For X-Ray, I always take out my un-opened films before pass through the x-gate. Actually for low speed film is OK. Dont worry too much about it!
