what batteries do u guys use for 580EX? I just got the mkII today. I vouch for its silent-ness! it's my first upgrade from an old starblitz 3600BTZ Twin (from my wife's uncle, about 10+ years old at least). need to digest the manual, but the first few trial shots were great. it even made my kit lens shine sharp! got it at T.K. Foto at S$710 (inclusive of GST). there are only 3 sets left as of 6pm today.;)

Sanyo Eneloops and nothing else!

hehe, i got both the sanyo and energizer rechargeables..:) would use the energizer (1700mah) first and keep the sanyos as spare when out on a day of a wedding shooting , can easily manage 400+ shots with flashes no probs on the lower rated energizers..:) plus i use the lightsphere so technically i would have to pump up output a little bit more because of the diffuser..:P

thanks guys, will check out sanyo. i'm currently using sony 2700, so far so good, but have not tested it to the max. i bought some varta ones before, they suck! GP is ok. the sanyo ones are only at 2000 right? technically, shouldn't the GP and Sony 2700 out performs sanyo?

Sanyo Eneloops are rated at 2000mAh.

one question, why are you guys blasting flash hard when you guys already know that celings are high?

arent you wasting flash power + killing your flash, isn't it? =/

does that mean it has less juice than the sony or gp ones?

If you're looking at max performance W.R.T mAh, the sony of GP have 2700mAh IIRC. However, the more common choice of 2700mAh rechargeable Ni-MHs is Maha Powerex. I currently use them and they're amazing batteries.

Thanks caleb. I think I'm pretty happy with these sony...they are pretty cheap, about 19.90 for 4 at Challenger, member's price. how about charger? do i need one that state that it can charge 2700mAh? or any charger would do, as i would just need longer time to charge the 2700mAh fully?

Eneloops have the ability to retain its power even when not used for a long time, up to a year. Others such as the Powerex do not exhibit that.

And...you've tried this? I've never left my Powerex unused for more than a week, but they hold their charge very well even after a week of non-utilisation - like they were freshly charged.

Tried leh...a week is fine but anything more than a few weeks, it's gone.

if this is true, then it sounds like sanyo Eneloops is the way to go. do they have anything higher than 2000mAh?

And you've left your Eneloops untouched for more than a year? IIRC you got eneloops recently only what.

Then have to recharge again. Previously my friend lent me his powerex batt for a while.
