Hi forumers,

I just bought a speedlite 430 Exii and found that some shoot can be quite harsh and overexpose. Understand that it can be reduce by either using a diffuser or flash card.

Can any senior/pro to enlighten me on the usage or some link for my learning on flash technic.

Most of my shoot will be family event and outdoor group photo during travelling

Flash on camera is the worst you can do to get good photos unless you're using it as fill flash. As a primary lighting source, it is best to get it OFF the camera using a cord or remote trigger. Many websites talk about this, you can start by searching "strobist" in google.

i also face the same problem... anyone Guru's here can help?

btw, anyone know can i get the flash card?

partially true but not totally true cos u cannot adopt the strobist method all the time, for example, in events or weddings, you definitely had to mount to your camera cos you cannot be using a light stand+mounted speedlites and placing it all over the places and expects the subjects to wait for you to get into position.

i think a diffuser/flash card is necessary depending on situation.

Don't point the flash straight on. Bounce it. Use a diffuser of card to get some light onto your subject. Get a white card board and strap it onto your flash. Cheapest way to play around first.

There are many ways to diffuse a flash. You can start by googling "how to bounce flash"
