if u know u are using all capability of SB800 by all mean get it...else SB600 would do nicely...n if u wanna upgrade then buy SB800 later n keep SB600 for CLS...
Better buy SB800 now, and later buy SB800 again for cls and backup ;p .

Regards,
Arto.

thanks people for all the kind advise and comments....

Of course the more high tech, the better BUT still have to watch what I spend and how well am I going to use these stuff to it's maximum ability.

Since I am just an amateur, I thought SB600 would do suffice till I grow out of it.

Got an offer @ $250 acutually from another CS member... Yay!! :vhappy:

I am taking macro shots for now so I find using flash helps very much. Imagine if I am trying to shoot a butterfly and by the time I set up my tripod, the butterfly dunno fly until where liao... was at Alexandra Hospital Garden there with some good of fellow amateurs and was so frustrated... hehe... dats why I WANT to buy a flash.

Congratulation on your decision and purchase. But, AFAIK, the flash head of SB600 can not tilt down, while flash head of SB800 can tilt down (good for macro work).

Correct me if I am wrong please...

Arto.

Well, if its for mainly for macro shot, you could consider the CLS systems ( SB-R200 with the close-up remote kit). But of course, I am no experts on macro/closeup flash photography.

Not to entice you in the BBB syndrome, though...;)

SB600 cannot tilt down meh?!?! :what: gosh... i better go read up about the specs of this flash.

I am no expert oso so no point buying all the high tech stuff when I am still at amateur level BUT will improvise and use whatever tools I have to its best ability.

Will upgrade when the wallet allows. ;)

hehehe.... thanks for the encouragement!

I used to believe that the more high tech the stuff, the better the pics BUT like what some CS members have commented, its not the camera that takes the pics, but the person behind the camera who has an eye for details and who maximise the ability of his/her equipment that take the best shots.

I will live by this motto man!

Have a great day everyone!!

Question: I can get a TTL remote cord if I need flash at a certain angle right? that shud solve problem rite?

Question: Was thinking of using cardboard wrapped in crushed aluminium foil to reflect light onto my subject. Is this any good?

Can be done, but how much is a TTL remote cord cost?

Good solution also. But you must trial and error first before the great event (I mean macro shoot).

May need to DIY something to diffuss the light.

Last bought the sync cable at around $30, not too sure now. :dunno:
Always out of stock.

get sb600 + sb800 for CLS! KEKEKEKE!

got a D50 and am new to external speedlights as well. recently found my dad's old Vivistar 2800. old manual flash. tried it on but can't get pictures right yet... too dark or too bright!

was wondering what it must be like to have the flash to automatically calculate it's power your ya... must be really cool eh?

Cable can be used... but make sure it supports the correct ttl mode...

I think u may need SC-28. Shld be about $60 - 80.. not very sure as my office bought one sometime back... pretty fun to use.

ok!

um... sorry ah! i keep asking so many questions cos I am really new at using flash. Please bear with me. Anyone can advise?

Question:
So the 'correct combination is :SB600 & TTL remote cord C-28 with D50"? I need TTL and manual modes.... :dunno:

This is what I got from NIKON's website:

The TTL Remote Cord SC-28/SC-29 comes with two multiple flash terminals, making off-camera TTL flash control easy. With the D2H, the SC-29 also works as an external AF-
assist illuminator.

Flash Exposure Control : TTL automatic control with Nikon F5, F100, F80, F75, and FM3A; Manual control; i-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash with Nikon D2X, D2Hs, D70, F6; D-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash with Nikon D1, D2 series or D100

Your kind advise please....

Me using D50 and am new to external flash too! I shoot macro now so thats why need to buy flash.... its good to have flash calculate power but sometimes the result is too dark or too bright due to natural lighting so it would be better to get TTL & manual mode right? if wrong must tell me hor?

Check the SB-600 or SB-800 manual first before getting it.

Under the TTL auto flash mode and optional accessiores.

Sorry I do not have the manual with me. :(

You only need the TTL remote-cord if you're going to do off-hotshoe flash. Else you don't need the SC28/SC29.

SB-600 and SB-800 both provides i-TTL and manual modes to D50.

noted with thanks... needed to use the remote cord (borrowed from fren) during last field trip to Alexandra Hospital Butterfly Garden and found it very useful if I need the flash at an angle.

Yay! getting my SB600 tmr from CS member! :vhappy:
