Ya, a speedlight definitely helps in taking pics of pets..
I was drawn to this initially coz i wanted to take pics of my 2 dogs...

Somebody adopted him, and claimed that he bit him and passed him back to SPCA, so.. he got put down... sadly.. i found his temperament very good..

wth got bitten once scared already...pets are after all animals what.
so there will bound to be times where they are wild as long as you beat them lightly and look at them in the eye while scolding them, sooner or later they will eventually get it.
just need to have a little more patience.
unless bring them to special dogs behavioral classes at a hefty price.
dont have to go to the extent to put the animal down unless the bite was really serious.
if that's the case the other husky that was reported at sentosa bitting a little girl would be put down already by his owner.

I think the SPCA will need more funds and the place is a real cramp for all the pets we see there. I had headed over to the Singapore zoo and wonder if they can let out a small area to hous some of the pets. Husky and some pretty beautiful and handsome pets at SPCA can be put for exhibits at the zoo in one corner. Humane, keep them alive a while longer prior to higher chances of adoption and i sure will go there more often like seeing cat or dog shows.

When I volunteered tehre ther used to eb times where they brought dome dogs out to west coast park dog run on thursdays to run for 2 hours or so.. duno if they still do it now.. There was one harrowing expereince when there was a hole in the fence and one of the dogs ran out.. lucky we managed to call her back...

I agree :thumbsup:. They are after all animals and have their own way to communicate with us. We just need more patience to find out whatever they are trying to express. This is exactly the same case of my youngest cat. His EQ is really zero or even can be rated as negative. I have got seriously bitten by him for a few occasion when he was young. I was so depressed then. But because of LOVE I have never thought of giving him up. I still, sometimes, try to understand what he is trying to express but I also teach him DOs and DON'Ts.

Great series of pics here. It's great that a number of people here have been photographing the SPCA animals to spread awareness on the forum. Naturally that has the side effect of inspiring new photographers as well, which is also a good thing.

Back in the days when I went there for work experience I did speak to the manager and she tells of how she has a wish to make Singapore's SPCA as grand as the RSPCA in Australia. The two are worlds apart in terms of facilities, now that I'm working as a vet there. However in terms of work it's pretty much the same. Lots of animals coming and going all the time.

There's even more potential for photography in Australia's RSPCA, but I don't know what's their take on photography by the public. If my work there didn't keep me completely occupied and flat out, I'd be doing photography for them. :bsmilie:

Kinda hard since singapore has so litte space and land is a premium.. also i persnoally feel the general SG attitude towards animals still has a long way to go :\ I kinda regret not going down there but yea I've been comitted to othr welfare orgs since my SPCA days =p.. This thread is kinda reminded me that i should amke some time to go back there..

Then this thread has achieved what photography can do: make you think about what you see. What more can you wish for? How many pictures do we see every day here? How many of them do we remember? How many discussions do we see about techniques, equipment and the prices? But these few pictures of animals make all this disappear, the object becomes the single focus again, not only for our eyes but also for our brains. Great! :thumbsup:
Don't forget supporting those animal shelters. There are a few of them in SG (not only from SPCA) and a lot of animals need help and attention. Spread the word and the pictures, please.

Thanks for all the attention this thread has gotten.. Am really glad that people do think of the animals.. instead of all the technical issues..

There are several dog shelters around, and catteries as well.. So do go for adoption if you intend to get a pet.

this dog looks like the one in my camp... but the one in camp now look very jialat... cannot even feed him at cookhouse... it used to be a very cute lovable doggie... now it seems like he is going to die off anytime... see liao heart pain =(

hmm.. Maybe its better not to get strays used to us feeding? If nt they will not learn how to look for food themselves in the wild... THis is really beautiful mongrel.. Its a pity, he is pretty timid, and hard to get people to adopt him...

Erm... none of those dogs or cats would be able to survive in the wild - they are pets = domesticated animals who are now depending on us humans to get their food. The strays are just "lost pets" .. or "dropped pets" .. or those who managed to escape bad care. They need help and support (there are many feeders in the HDB areas) but also control to prevent uncontrolled breeding. So please help SPCA and all the other groups to neuter them (it's about SGD 30 per cat if I'm not wrong).
But .. we are OT now.

haa no worries.. But from what I have seen there, many people pick up the stray puppies, who are still feeding on mum's milk... sterilisation def helps, but if people do not get educated abt it, then its going to be a continuous vicious cycle...

Anyway, will be dropping by SPCA again nxt week b4 exams start... will update the thread again soon!
