[soulFLY] Frozen in Time 2012

hi Thomas,

I feel the original pic is unbalanced and the building at left draws the viewer out of the frame. would prefer to crop the building away, centralize the tree and apply some backlight correction. perhaps also a longer exposure to give a dreamier quality to the clouds.

Hi Zaren,

Thank you very much for the feedback and corrective action. Yep, it looks better now but how about cropping it square; as I normally preferred to present my work in square.

It is hard do deal with when dealing with landscape simplicity approach...perhaps Im trying hard to squeeze something out of no where as been so long am out of photographing...Nonetheless, I truly appreciate your feedback and advice.

Cheers,
Thomas

e.g.

Agree that the building on left is distracting, though I would probably opt to leave in the lead-in line starting on the left (which happens to be at the corner if you crop out the building). I do enjoy the dark mood opted for by Thomas' version, though I think something could be done to increase the separation of the tree from the background. I find that there is much too much space in the sky, which reduces the weight of the tree, the central subject here... Yet the sky is compelling so it would be a pity to crop it out. I might opt to actually just "compress" the sky here by selectively resizing that portion...

Anyways, just sharing my thoughts. Cheers!

Hi Thomas,

For a square crop, I would probably go for something like this;

Thank you WK for dropping by and appreciate your thoughts.
Both you and Zaren have a point but looking again, the building is really distracting...might step 3-4 steps to the left but this will result to weak lead in.
Well, need more practice on landscape and trees at BG are really pain in the a$$.
Am not quite get what you mean by 'compress' sky by selective resizing....any header?!
Cheers

You use the marquee tool, select the part of the sky without the tree, press Ctrl+J, this will duplicate the selection.

Then press... (bleh, I had to open PS for this, not familiar with the command as I seldom use it haha) Ctrl + T, this will allow you to stretch that part of the image. You can reduce the height of that part... If it starts looking too wrong, you can always erase and blend it.

Hope this helps!

Right, I will give it a go! Cheers.

alternatively....clone away the building at left and replace it with trees.... :)
