Sony RX100 Mark III

Here is a shot I took with the rx100 m3 in Peru. It's a street scene just after sunset. Hand held at 1/30s, ISO 2500. The first is unedited. To the right, I lifted the shadows on the JPEG. Shows that the file is quite flexible, even in jpeg and not raw.

I have an OMD EM5 and GX7. The RX100 M3 is comparable in low light ability.

The bandings in the sky is quite evident after the post processing though..

Hi Bro,

That pic is indeed very nice. I am thinking of the RX100 III and suddenly came across the G7x. The price is much cheaper but heard lens at wide angle not so nice. I can actually get the em5 elite black kit at a good price but could be too heavy for my liking.

Anyone doing time lapse and leave the camera on for hours overnight? Will it be facing overheating issues?

For those who are interested, seems there is a promotion for the RX100 M3. Was told by MS Color the offer price was $970 but only a 16GB card given.
In case you are interested. I am still looking for a cheaper deal to upgrade me RX100 M1...haha

Just called SLR revolution and Alan photo both same price 968 with free SD card (probably 16GB)
Anyone got any cheaper quote ?

What is the best sd card for this cam? Sandisk extreme 64GB? Price? Thks!

How do you classify "best"?

Best = cheaper in price?
Best = highest in price?
Best = fastest in read speed?
Best = fastest in write speed?
Best = biggest memory size?
Best = stability or most error free?
Best = with Wi-Fi ability?
Best = longest warranty period?

To capture Best video quality XAVC-S format, you need SDXC card. So if this is your question on best card, get the fastest and highest memory size of a SDXC card.

About to plonk my money on a RX100 MK3. But still deciding between the Canon G7 X and Lumix 100. I am downgrading from a DSLR Nikon D3100 to a compact cos i have a kid now and dont wanna lug DSLR around.

I mostly shoot in JPEG and take portraits, street shots, macro and some landscapes. I really like pictures which have rich colour and my old Panasonic Lumix LX3 does the work for me.

So between the 3 of them, which one serves my purpose?

my personal opinion only.

if you need something pocketable the LX100 is out. between G7X and RX100M3 i feel the Canon has slightly better out-of-camera jpegs (having owned a couple of Canon's G series cams before, as well as the RX100M1 and M2, and now the M3). but overall the Sony takes the cake because of its EVF and "bounceable" flash which i really like.

however if size is no concern, i would personally choose the LX100 mainly due to its bigger sensor and 4K video.

again just my amateurish point of view. let's wait for the pros to chime in.

I did not find the LX100 image quality to be anything special.

I sold my DSLR system three years back cuz it was cumbersome to carry and started using compact but realized after a short while that i really miss thin DOF offer by my dslr so now i keep one compact and one DSLR system lol
If u plan to keep only one , my suggestion is to go with lX100, cuz frankly hold rx00 and g7x feels really small. Dont get me wrong its a good thing but u may miss a feel of comfortable grip of DSLR.
Moreover lx100 gives thinnest DOF in these three and perhaps all the available cameras for this segment

That's a lot of cameras that u own! Why didn't u get Lx100? Coz of the size? Without considering the size, the LX100 is better than mk3?

I don't own all of them at once, I sell each one then upgrade when the next model appears, just as many others do. Can't afford to keep all even if I wanted to.

From most reviews the LX100 seems to be a good camera. If it had a built-in flash I would definitely consider buying it. But for now the M3 suits my purpose very well.

My M3 is being shared with the wife, and I just bought the A7II as my main cam.

Finally decided and I got the Sony Rx100 MK3. Just realized there is no free spare batt. Anyone knows how much is it to get one?

Could anyone help to inform the best place to get this camera at lowest price (from reliable vendor)? Most appreciate. Many thanks.

You can always get much better deals at eBay or Qoo10.sg, sometimes they come with a travel charger too.
