Sony RX100 Mark III

Got mine yesterday evening. No pre-order freebies but I did get 2 additional batteries and traveller charger.

that's a sweet deal. looks like there's really no big advantage in taking the pre order.

Quite like the built in EVF. With the third party grip and EVF, stability is much better ..

Tilt screen was great .. very easy to do selfie ..

The other thing I like compared to Mk1 and Mk2 is the flash. In Mk1 and 2, you have to set the flash on and off through the menus. Very troublesome, unlike the Fuji X series. Now Mk3, you just preset the flash mode in menus. Subsequently, if you want the flash, just press the switch and the flash will pop up and fire. If you don't want, just press it back and it won't fire (even though you set the menu to say force flash). Much faster operation.

no link, no way for us to know what the heck they're talking about.

in terms of sensor size, body size etc, i would say the Canon G1X mk2

Thanks. Just checked out canon g1x mk2 in youtube. still favor rx100 due to its pocketable size and image quality (referring to the pixel density since i couldn't really tell other difference).

Present moment, I don't think there are any equivalent for the RX100iii, but frankly speaking... whether it is the best Point and shoot out there at the moment? It all depends on what you are looking at.

If you want hotshoe and flippy screen... RX100ii is the way to go. Or even the Canon G1XmkII. If you need faster lens... and don't mind it lacking a hotshoe for external flash... the RX100iii is the way to go... it come with its own viewfinder too.

The RX100ii and RX100iii shared the same sensor, and so IQ should be about the same. G1XmkII although having bigger sensor and lower resolution, doesn't win too much or at all with the dynamic range and low light performance as compared to the Sony RX100ii/ iii, which is kind of a surprise actually. But that is not to say that G1XmkII is a lousier camera.

As to people mentioning that Sony picture looked flat, it is also quite subjective. I find the images (from reviews site) from RX100iii quite pleasing, no issues there and it certainly don't looked flat. And if you want 3D... then all these cameras are not for you.

Anyway, there are rumors of a Panasonic LX8 or whatever LX that is sporting a 1 inch sensor also. Can wait for that camera to come out before making a decision. Also, you can check on Samsung NX mini, which is very small and having great 1 inch sensor that had a very reputable IQ... and at a very affordable price.

Thanks for the info. Compact and great images works for me. Had a DSLR and never really used it after a while. I like to be able to just take a camera out for quick shots without being too obvious and having to carry a heavy weight.
Any idea if there's rumoured dates for the release of LX8?

Congrats to those who got the MIII. Please post what you think about the camera when you have the time :)

Haven start playing with it but the first new add-on Auto ND filter is really good. Point the cam towards the sky in a sunny day yet I still can see a nice blue sky. Later gotta download those memories apps into the cam. :D

Rumoured around mid jul.. but that will be just the announcement. Should take 1-2 months later before it reach our shore.

How's the video quality based on the new format? Is it a worthwhile upgrade? At 50mbps, it better be lol

The mark 3 is a very good compact camera. I just have a few minor complaints. This is my 2nd Compact Camera (first was the S90). I am using a Canon 5D mark 2 as my main camera.
Of course, the RX100 iii is not meant to replace a DSLR. In terms of manual settings, the RX100iii isn't really that user friendly (but given it's size and image quality, it is something I can live with).
I am still quite impressed by it so far in terms of the IQ. Very clean images at high ISOs. Oh, and another irritating thing about shooting in RAW mode. Images have to be converted to DNG before they can be used with photoshop, which I find annoying, and time consuming.

Another nice thing I found. With Mk1 and Mk2, if you are playing back videos, its takes a few steps to get to view photos and vice versa. You could not view photos and video in sequence seamlessly. In Mk3, you can just scroll through photos and videos playback seamlessly.

Dude, care to share where you got yours? I've been hunting a number of places but all out of stock.

Got it from Click.

Got mine a few days ago in USA. USD798. No tax from New Hampshire Best Buy. Works well. Love the EVF. Buttons almost identical to my A7r. Can switch back and forth easily.

I almost bought one on Friday but thought I'd hold out for LX8 announcement. After playing with the LX7, i question whether Panasonic can bring the build quality up to par with the RX100? If they do the price will increase dramatically, but alter the product models market position.
As an avid (low light) video shooter i got an itchy wallet after seeing these samples...my MKII is good, but the level of artifacts in some situations is still frustrating. Look into the dark shadowed areas of some of these clips...i see disitnct improvements on MKII

Has anyone tried the wifi remote shooting? Are we able to adjust setting from phone? Thanks

What has not changed is the fill flash. Still no where as natural as Fuji fill flash. Once you switch on flash, the ISO goes low and the background goes dark if you are using auto ISO. To get round this issue you have to set ISO manually to around 800 or 1600. Then the balance of flash and background is quite acceptable.

Anyone manage to find the option to disable camera power off when the EVF is pushed down? Remember during the preview I heard the presenter mentioned there's a way to do so.

I can't find this option too inside the setting page. If someone knows how to do it, please do share. Thanks.
