Sony RX100 Mark III

I like this small but powerful camera. However the price is too steep. What are some other equivalent small, handy and powerful point and shoot cameras for comparison?

Secondary, saw on dpreview people saying Sony's picture looks flat. Any idea what they mean with examples?

I had the Canon G1XM2 for awhile. While there was stuff to like about it (mainly the relatively fast 5x zoom), the AF was pretty poor. Failed to lock (yellow box with exclamation mark) quite easily. Wasn't crazy abt the double control ring either. Ended up selling it.

Order from Alan Photo is RRP? Order from Sony Store collection is today, getting excited.

If you want a solid PNS now, RX100mk3 is the definitely the one to get if you are ok with the price.
No point wait for other models that will be out in 6 months time etc, by that time Sony will also release RX100mk4 etc in 6 months time that will be even better.
Its a never ending story...

Present moment, I don't think there are any equivalent for the RX100iii, but frankly speaking... whether it is the best Point and shoot out there at the moment? It all depends on what you are looking at.

If you want hotshoe and flippy screen... RX100ii is the way to go. Or even the Canon G1XmkII. If you need faster lens... and don't mind it lacking a hotshoe for external flash... the RX100iii is the way to go... it come with its own viewfinder too.

The RX100ii and RX100iii shared the same sensor, and so IQ should be about the same. G1XmkII although having bigger sensor and lower resolution, doesn't win too much or at all with the dynamic range and low light performance as compared to the Sony RX100ii/ iii, which is kind of a surprise actually. But that is not to say that G1XmkII is a lousier camera.

As to people mentioning that Sony picture looked flat, it is also quite subjective. I find the images (from reviews site) from RX100iii quite pleasing, no issues there and it certainly don't looked flat. And if you want 3D... then all these cameras are not for you.

Anyway, there are rumors of a Panasonic LX8 or whatever LX that is sporting a 1 inch sensor also. Can wait for that camera to come out before making a decision. Also, you can check on Samsung NX mini, which is very small and having great 1 inch sensor that had a very reputable IQ... and at a very affordable price.

Did you guys paid RRP?

Did you guys paid RRP?

Yes, paid $1,199. Free gifts are the standard pre order free gifts (case and 16gb by sony). They wanted to give me a spare batt by itself, but I requested to top up for the charger and I paid $39 for a sony spare battery + charger kit.

hi, how does the IQ of this camera compares with canon S120?

I was told that the sensor sizes are almost the same.

tks in advance.

They are different class of camera. Sensor size is totally different, the Sony is 1 inch sensor and the Canon is a small 1/1.7" sensor. Image quality is also different.
