Sony RX100 Mark III

I dont have proper sources but I'm quite sure the RX100III will AF faster than G1X2. Again, it depends on what features you need/want cause that will help tilt the discussion in the right direction.

They added in all the video stuffs, 50mbps XAVC-S, Clean HDMI, Zebra etc but remove the hotshoe for external mic. I guess to keep the small size, they have to do so for now. Maybe MKIV, they will have it all at the small size.

which 1 is better??

Depend on what you are looking for. The G1XmkII is no doubt a good camera, but strangely, the high ISO performance is about the same as the RX100mkII (slightly better, I think) but the dynamic range is not as great (which is strange, given the larger sensor of G1XmkII). AF speed should be about the same (RX100mkII comparison) and if the RX100mkIII is better in AF as comparing to RX100mkII, then it should be better in AF.

RX100mkIII also sported a new processor... and if it would improve the high ISO performance as compared to the RX100MKII, then it should be about the same or slightly better in comparison to G1XmkII.

RX100mkIII sported a faster lens then G1XmkII but with shorter focal length. It had a proper built in EVF, but G1XmkII didn't have. It took 20MP of resolution so more detail can be captured, as compared to G1XmkII.

However, RX100mkIII is more expensive and not in the market yet. Even if it comes out, I believe there is a long line of pre-orders, so you wouldn't get one that early. The G1XmkII however is already in the market and you can walk down to the store and get one immediately.

So do you want to wait and doesn't mind the extra? If you can afford that... I would think RX100mkIII is a better choice.

(Edit: No hotshoe for RX100mkIII so you cannot attach accessory like the external flash to it.)

The RX100mkIII should be the much better deal but personally I would rather buy the G1XmkII just for the touch screen. :)

The RX mk3 should be out soon. These are basically iterative builds so many parts are essentially reusable, and time to market should be optimised. As for whether you get better performance from mk2 to 3, the sensors are exactly the same, so any big IQ performance change would probably only come from a better lens design in my opinion.

For that, we have to await some samples and user tests. Probably by next week we will see some image reviews :)

No... getting better IQ (in the form of low light performance) don't just rely on sensor and lens alone. The processor in the camera do help too and RX100iii featured a newer processor.

However, how much improvement will there be in real life, I think none of us know until some of us gotten the mkIII and place it side by side mkII to do a test.

The G1X n other APS-C point n shoot cameras by right should give better low light performance with relatively bigger sensors. The thing about the RX100 series is that you can fit it into your pocket and still get amazing photos.

Yah.. I am sure the price will be lower if u have a regular shop that u go too..

Free 16gb card and another original battery.. That's really tempting..

I just pre-ordered mine at Alan Photo Funan. Paid $100 deposit. Eta mid Jun 14.

I want to get the RX100ii so bad! But after the freaking accident, I am in air cast now and cannot get down to Funan or walk much. Normally I get to office, sit at my desk and work whole day.

All the processor does is run the images through a image algorithm, then maybe some of the circuit pathways could be optimised for better s/r ratios. The BionzX processor does incorporate a much nicer jpeg engine than previous generations so that is great for jpeg shooters.

Wait for the DXOmark sensor tests to see for sure, but most of the cameras using the Sony 1" sensor are showing the same low light performance.

For pure IQ improvements I'm still banking on the new lens design to get the most out of the sensor, which is already v good in the current mk2 model.

I also preordered a set from one of the regular shops yesterday, can't wait to get my hands on it. The pop-up EVF, the selfie LCD screen (for wifey) and the new F1.8 - F2.8 lens are the seller for me.
