Sony RX10 mk4

The only thing that irritates me is that when its flushing buffer, you cant switch to video mode.

And still not raw support yet ?@!# This sample of a jpeg that i edited slightly for exposure.

Nice. Was that at Gardens by the Bay. I think I shot the same fellow but with a different camera

Here is a shot of a Grey Heron near the tree which is full of Herons at Chinese Gardens

The RX10M4 handles Continuous Auto Focus as well as any SLR I've used. Probably the equivalent of the A9

Nope, Pasir Ris Park :)

Nice shot, yes the CAF/bursting ability of the rx10m4 is amazing. It also has the ability to do the "recall custom hold" feature like A9. I got one button mapped to ISO 6400 for temporary situations when i need higher ISO.. very handy.

How is the touch AF performing? Responsive or not? Hopes when I got it, will be using it often :D

Works well & very responsive. What I like even better is using the touch screen to move the focusing point around when I'm looking through the viewfinder. Just brilliant.

nice photos! is it suitable for sports?

had some reservations about small sensor but very impressed with the Olympus OM-D EM1 Mk II when they organised a football shoot recently. That one plus lenses will also cost a bomb so might as well consider a Bridge camera like RX10.

Another question is if anyone brought it into the Sports Hub, indoor stadium or shot concerts? Sports Hub rules say can't bring camera with interchangeable lens so this one by right can.. :D

I find the sony 1" sensors to be better then the olympus mft sensors actually. Both in speed and high ISO shooting. I tried the olympus 300/4pro with the em1m2 at an indoor volley ball match (Oly organised) and find the performance to be below expectation. (Its a pricey setup! Yeah you can get decent shots, but not all the time. My d500+300/4pf setup trashes the oly300/4+em1m2 setup)

Here's a sample of a tricky shot i managed to nail with the rx10m4. Its a fast camera, with great versatility. Its not going to replace my nikon telephoto setup, but its something I will have in arsenal. And I can do videos with it !!

I'm a big fan of the 1" sensor. (I been using the nikon1 system for awhile, and own the rx100 and rx10) i recently sold off my em1m2 coz the AF just wasn't fast and *reliable* enough. (Yes you can get great shots with the MFT system, but i want something that can get the shots all the time like my Nikon)

You very bad :bsmilie::bsmilie:
I keep telling myself I don't need the RX10 IV. I went to try the handling at Sony at 313 Somerset. Although it is big, but the handling feels good

Yes, I have big hands and its comfortable. What I recommend is just get a good handstrap, or a short sling and you're good to go ! Its my go-to camera when i go cycling/exploring. I found the short focusing range to be great for some nature macro too.

The RX10m4 is a want. But you NEED to have your wants :P

I carry both EM1 Mk2 and RX10M4. The RX10M4 is for the zoom capability and BIF. I agree that the EM1 Mk2 doesn't focus that well on action shots and the Sony is better. Hope they improve the algorithm.

However, the EM1 Mk2 with 300mm F4 has superb sharpness, that the RX10M4 cannot match. Also, being able to put a 1.4 TC to get 840mm F5.6 at a similar level of sharpness to the RX10M4 at 600mm is a very useful capability. Lastly, the EM1 Mk2 pro capture mode of 60fps and capturing the 14 frames before shutter press is amazing for action shots, especially birds flying in and out of nests. Some examples from EM1 Mk2

Great close shots of the Pita there !

Of course the em1m2 + 300/4 will shoot better, its a larger sensor and the lens is a prime. It comes in at almost 3x the weight/cost too :P I played with the pro-capture quite a bit, and i find it very laggy to use + eshutter causes a lot of rolling shutter effects. You'll have to prefocus and wait for the bird to come in to fire the shot, its quite tricky to run and gun after a bird with pro-capture.

The rx10m4 has the HFR mode that does 1000 frames before the shutter button, but damn that is even laggier and harder to use. (Back with the rx10m3 i used to just clamp the camera down and prepare with a remote shutter to get the bird landing shots)

I don't get any rolling shutter effects with e-shutter either the RX10M3, EM1Mk2 or RX10M4 for static shots. If I pan then they will appear, but the EM1Mk2 is much better than my previous GH3 in rolling shutter. Pro capture is for birds jumping of perches, landing on a usual perch or going in and out of nests. It's not designed for shooting on the move and I use the RX10 for that. For pro capture suitable shots of birds nesting, I'm in and out in an hour because the 60fps lets me get a good shot quickly with pro capture. The Canikon crowd will sit there all day with the cable release at 5-10fps hoping for a good shot.

HFR mode isn't useful to me because the shots are HD quality or 2MP. Pro capture captures full 20MP shots.

Good to hear both your views. IMHO, even before money/cost comes into the equation, there is no perfect camera so It's not just what RX10M4 can do but if we can accept what it can't.

For me, I'm just worried about image quality. Now read and see until shiok shiok, scared after buying get disappointed. Can't find it available for rental anywhere so still doing research.. [emoji51]

Recorded movie with it and ended up weird noise as the crickets noise too sharp for it! Btw, need to master the camera well and not to forget a remote + tripod for the tele end!
