Any idea if a Japanese version Rx1 can be converted to international version with subsequent firmware updates?

Next week.

From past experience no.

Anyone with a local set can tell me where it's made?

My previous LX3 Japanese was converted to English by changing the PCB board

Just wanna say that I got my RX1 from Cathay Photo yesterday.

Okay thanks for reading. Off to shoot.

That why Steve huff say get the evf cos it has everything inside and cheaper than the ovf which is basically a piece of glass

I have the NEX6 and I must say I really much prefer the OVF compared to the EVF.

One thing I noticed is that if your viewing angle is slightly off using the EVF, you can see ugly colored lines along areas of high contrast. REally disturbing.

Anyone sees this?

I am charging my battery now. Have not had the chance to fondle it much.

The OVF for the RX1 is not the same as the ones on DSLRs or rangefinders. It is basically just a piece of glass with frame lines.

This is the OVF. You see the frame lines at the back, that is superimposed on what you are pointing at to give you an idea of what your framing will be like. Thats it.

i have one. will shoot a few hundred frames this weekend and report back.

initial observations:

- very small, surprisingly light, excellent build quality - its solid throughout.
- the bokeh is very beautiful as far as i can tell so far
- the lens is sharp. yes its sharp. it really is sharp. i have no complaints
- there is some CA with the lens wide open, but i honestly couldn't be bothered about it
- with the new lightroom 4.3, the files open very well. quality is there, reminds me of D3X sensor quality files
- color rendition is beautiful. this is of course, a subjective thing. :-)
- focusing is reasonably fast, i'd say on par with the rx100 at the slowest. using single point center AF only.
- the battery is really small. like. really. small. so i bought an extra one
- i see no difference in image quality output through iso 3200 (so far tested) with respect to my D4 and 35/1.4 AF-S @ f/2.

enabling the distortion correction function in lightroom, i can see how the edges of the image are "skewed out" in post production to yield an image frame that more resembles a 36mm one. no big deal, since the 35/1.4 Leica FLE is roughly a 35.6mm lens anyway....

zero edits, no sharpening in output. like i said, i think the bokeh is pretty. sonnar design indeed!

The evf technology is not perfect. It's is widely known that high contrast and low lighting situations will stress the evf. The Sony oled evf is currently the best in its class. Ovf has its pros that evf cannot replace , but evf technology is currently good enough to replace ovf as an eye level framing tool
