The thumb grip is tiny. It gives you a better position to rest your thumb to give the RX1 better stability. It is about 4cm long and attaches to the hotshoe. It is not like a vert grip.

Oh... I see, now i know my brother M9, that thing on it "thumb up" is the grip. (From Chiif camera)

Thks

Here are some OOC JPGs from the RX1, I have the RAW as well but no time to process. Please excuse the poor pictures. Not exactly shots to challenge the sensor of the RX1 but this is what I have until I have more free time.

The autofocus is fast for a compact, not DSLR fast but decent. In every day situations you won't notice any problems.

In extremely low light, it depends on where it was focused to before and where the target point is. In ideal situations no hunting, in the worst case scenario some.

One thing I absolutely love about the RX1, it is full frame, it does not have a mirror so NO mirror slap. You can hand hold to some ridiculously low shutter speeds. Speeds that I could previously only use with decent results on a M9. So now there are 2 full frame cameras with no mirror slap on the market. One is more than 3 years old and one is state of the art.

No camera is perfect, the purpose of this forum is to exchange information, the pros and cons.

I posted that the RX1 is a good camera but I also followed up with a list of what i did not like. There are shortcomings. The RX1 has tons of accessories that add to the user experience, EVF, OVF, hood, thumb grip, case etc. How it interacts with these accessories and what is included in the box is important to some. If you don't find it useful, move along.

Unlike others, I don't post about what I don't own. You don't know everything about something you just bought. it is through use that you learn more. Find me a review that covers more than the amazing IQ of the RX1 and includes how all the accessories work with the RX1.

But unfortunately with a forum nazi like you, the chances of a good objective discussion about a product is just not possible.

Thanks for your field report. I have read too much about the good things about the RX1, it is good to read about the cons. I am now in Japan, the RX1 on sale here are Japanese models, camera menu only in Japanese and it cannot be changed to English. Its cheaper here at around JPY233K.

Yes only Japanese menu sets available in Japan at the moment.

A99 also got no mirror slap ;)

Uh true. I was not thinking of DSLR sized cameras and completely left it out. My mistake. I should know better considering I have the A99 as well.

The RX1 shutter does feel different from the A99. Lighter on vibration and quieter. Could just be a placebo since I have not read up on the tech specs and they could be the same.

Rx1 uses a leaf shutter. It's quieter than the a99 by a mile.

Appreciate your detailed feedback. Looking forward to your in depth user experience!

Hmm, quite often when I want to buy something electronic, I will always do a search for a review and in those searches, I will also specifically search for the cons of that product cus most of the time, most reviewers are too good nature (for obvious reasons) to not criticise the product too much. I dont like to buy a product to end up discovering the various cons that are omitted in most reviews. Better to know them and to see if you can accept them.

:o

i'm a Nazi.

before you make that statement, perhaps you should even know me and look at some of my other posts before determining that i'm not objective in my postings.

obviously no camera is perfect. and it's very obvious you bought the camera without knowing what it can do, or what you expected, according to your later posts. hence, i still stick by my statement of "you have no idea what you've bought".

Thank you zixaw for listing the cons of the accessories. Most people who buy a costly item or item attached to an expensive one will rave about it, for if you don't like it, likely you will want to sell it, so why would you write the cons about it.
Anyway this forum is about equipment discussions, not about personalities or opinions of contributors on each other.
I congratulate zixaw for being objective in his/her assessment of the Sony accessories.
Image quality in any review is important for consumers to consider but so are other factors, like how it handles and control locations. The accessories for the RX1 thus play a huge part and furthermore, not at all low priced.

Nobody comes here to read critical comments about Sony products. This forum is a peaceful place of fun and joy so please post only positive comments.
