Sony PMW-F3

I want..... but i don't wanna pay the price haha :P

Compared to F35, F3 is a bargain. Compared to F3, AF100 is a bargain. Compared to AF100, VG10 is a steal, Compared to VG10, 5D is a value upgrade. Compared to 5D, GH2 is a cheaper alternative. How to choose rationally?

Compared to what clients want to pay, best is not to come into the industry. :P

LOL i like dat Dixon...

Anyway the NXCAM-S35 is the baby to watch out =) F3 is way out of reach for ordinary people at SGD2x,xxx

Well said Dixon! NXCAM S35 could end up as a VG10 with bigger sensors. I think at the price point of £6000 for S35, a 5D markIII (hopefully with a swivel screen) could still be much more attractive.

I'm waiting for Canon to come into the picture :D

For me, i still think that the front-end sensors are good enough for up to 2K or 4K use....ultimately it's the recording format that makes the difference now, and that's the price difference you've gotta pay.

H264 or AVCHD recording format = cheap & affordable be it the AF100 or VG10
AF100 coupled with a high end external recorder for better quality recordings via HD-SDI output is probably going to end up as expensive as a PMW-F3 or RED or Alexa.

someone should make film, developing and telecine cheaper.

the F3 and nxcam s35 will be good options for mid range usage. quite excited by the s35.

a naked AF100 is kinda silly.

still waiting to see a h264 / AVCHD feature film, hah~

I can imagine seeing all the color banding on skin tones, motion artifacting on fast moving scenes, etc....just like most of the 5DmkII videos you'll get to see on local broadcast TV... :nono:

yes agreed i hate colour banding it irks me the most and no one has a solution for it.

anyway AF100 had a preview at objectifs last night did anyone go ? anything interesting ?

yes agreed i hate colour banding it irks me the most and no one has a solution for it.

There are plenty of solutions for it...just don't use that format! :P

Maybe this will solve some of the compression problems:

Pricy though.

Strangely, everyone in the industry seems to be attracted by the hype of large sensors & interchangable lenses with lower than acceptable recording format....then after spending all the money on those gears, more money are wasted to make working/filming more difficult by adding separate recorders....end up more battery to worry about, more leychey in setups, more cables and accessories to attach to the camera rig, and more chances that things will go wrong.

With proper cinematography & filming techniques, there's almost nothing a traditional full size ENG camera cannot do.....for under about $20k, you get a good 1/2" or 1/3" 3MOS/CCD camera and a 17x F1.6-2.8 versatile ENG lens with options to mount digiprimes with proper adaptors.
You'll also get a superb and robust recording format with minimal or intraframe compression (eg. P2 format), plus you'll get all sorts of versatility in terms of using your gears for multi-purpose filming scenarios.....events, broadcast, live, narrative, short film, corporate, reality, etc.....no sensor overheating issues, 4ch of audio inputs, long batt life, etc...

Try filming a reality series, run & gun style with a RED rig. ;p

Below are some picts to show how versatile an ENG camera can be:

Of course if really want more fancy stuff, can add on matte boxes, rail systems, follow focus, etc...but the fact boils down to whether client really have that kinda budget to want all that fancy stuff?

Does anybody know where can I get this camera in Singapore? Any store that will have it available as soon it is released?

Thanks!

at the moment it would be launched in Jan/Feb 2011. The main dealers would have limited stocks. Prices are out already. I think you can pre order right now. So far i am aware Expandore will have it.

Problem is, nobody at Expandore replies to my emails. ANd the info on Expandore site is misleading, it doesn't say Pre-order. Any other store you know will have and are accepting pre-orders?

Thanks.

Not only they don't answer emails, they don't have time to take your calls too, and most of the time they don't have stock too even if you have the $$$.

By the time you ding dong with them, my items would have arrived from B&H, probably at a slightly cheaper price even after exchange rate, shipping & import tax.

Only disadvantage that I can think of is warranty, but Sony should honor their product repairs internationally.

Drop me a PM if you need leads to other supplier, but I don't think they accept pre-orders for PMW-F3...Sony Singapore haven't even officiate a product launch yet....

Sent you a PM. BH is not shipping this one outside the US. I just don't understand why BH sometimes decides to do that.
