Saw a last set on Friday when I was there at SLR Revo. They probably sold it off over the weekend.

Sony style has it as well, but it will be usual retail price at $599.

Actually I am the buyer for that set you saw on Friday. I asked them to reserve for me on Saturday........................

Bhphoto selling at usd 348. I've not used bhphoto before, any bros here know if it would be really cheaper compared to local retail prices after factoring all the other costs (shipping, gst, or any others I'm not aware of) and is there any issues we would need to consider when buying from bhphotos (warranty?).

I got mine $501 at SLRR. Definitely not worth getting there if you factor in everything, price already too high & some more, no warranty covered.

I think should be quite easy to get this lens. I just called SLRR and reserved one when there is stock that time.......................

Hmm, suppose I have fren working in US and I get him to buy for me, will not incur shipping n gst, will be cheaper? As for the warranty, I read somewhere that US warranty may be recognised in Singapore, or smth like that. True? Lens don't screw up as often as camera bodies right?

At its old price of srp$459, the street price was S$400, i will rate it as ok/fair value. it has oss which is useful. the copy that i had worked well with the 5N.
it is also the cheaper alternative to the expensive SEL18-200.

But with its latest price of srp S$599 and street price of S$500+, i find it ridiculous/expensive/not worth it.
But if you own a nex, you want oss, you can only suck thumb and buy the SEL55210. :bsmilie: who ask you buy nex?:dunno:

look at the m43, there are more zooms, got two brands (with and without OIS), and bodies (with and without IS).
Not trying to bash sony. In fact, i love sony. my current mission is to convert my canon colleague to the A57.:bsmilie:

Actually, even at $500, I think the 55-210 is worth it. It's light and very sharp and OSS is very useful for taking static subjects at 210mm.

I have the OMD and Panny 100-300. It's heavier than my NEX setup, but has much greater reach and is my default birding/super telephoto setup. However, I think the 55-210 is still a little sharper and has better performance in low light (with my 5N). When I need long zoom, but not 600mm EFL, the 5N/55-210 is more convenient to bring around and outstandingly sharp.

Anyway, dun expect too much in terms of very good picture quality for Sony E Mount lenses other than 50mm f1.8 & Carl Zeiss 24mm f1.8... Still find the rest of the Sony E Mount lenses overpriced. Hmm

Sony e-mount lenses are made with high quality build so it is priced higher. Just compare the kit lens, the nex lens is made of metal compared to the al rubbish plastic kit lenses of other brands. The 55-210 as well, its made of mag-alloy.
