Sony NEx Released SG June 10

Yes i would agree that the package is quite basic. No mem card or bag. Other accessories also not in yet. Sonystyle also got the stock like 1pm today only.

However once you tried the demo set, you will soon forget about everything else and just say "give me one!!" and hand will go for your wallet. Its really uncontrollable though i know i can get $100 lesser from other retailer tmr but i guess the virus has really hit me hard so much that i want it immediately.

Ouverture: i know the feeling, that's what overcame me immediately after i finished my meeting. i flew off my desk and got me the 1855 kit from paragon. i know its going to be $100 cheaper at cam shops and prolly with a freebie mem card or somethin else but since the shipment to the cam shop got delayed, i decided i couldnt take the waiting anymore... so i left happy with my sanity intact lol

Yup. Anyway i confirmed with those cam shops, they also hv no freebies only $100 cheaper but shipment is not firm yet.

Congrats, waiting for your samples pics

dunno if PC show will give freebies anot.. like memory card n free battery? hehe

i wan silver nex 5 wif pancake !

I am not sure about everyone else. But personally I feel 18-55 kit is more useful as a normal photography lens, esp so with OSS.

16mm is rather too wide to be useful, unless you only shoot landscape or architectural. F2.8 will not be useful for those shots either.

I am actually waiting for the rumoured 30mm f1.8 pancake though. 18-200mm is another consideration for one-lens option but will be quite expensive i guess.

I got the 16mm from IMM Sony Style , with 300 bucks voucher. I prefer the 16mm for normal usage as i will be using it as a casual cam when going out with frens or travelling. F2.8 , will be useful for dim light indoor .

More importantly , the 16mm is the most compact with the body, with the 18-55mm zoom , its really hard to put in a bag or small brief case

For those who is getting the NEX cam from PC show... it should probably come with 8gb mem card and case (confirmed not leather case) as freebies.

But the price will be RRP - $1199/-
;p

So the price difference of $100 getting from retail shop should make up for it.

Will prolly be getting one tomorrow at PC show.

:D:D

sony like always very strict in their pricing.

1199 for either the 16mm or 18-55, comes only with the strip and voucher (300) which can only be used to buy the e-mount lens.

Today is the collection day for most of the pre orders owners. The vouchers are part of these pre order as well but sony stores are offering to walk in customer as well ( i was told).

But the emount lens is not cheap, 18-55 when convert from Yen is like sgd 1464, 1855 is like sgd 540, while the 16mm is like 463

the 2 other lens one is the fish eye is like sgd 232, while the wide angle is like sgd 200

The dual lens kit SRP is only 100 more versus the single kit, however the prices of the single lens be it 16 or 18 - 55 would be more than 300sgd. (US Sonystyle or Sony Style Japan)

Even with the $300 voucher we would pay 150 or more, are we penalised for being the first to own the cameras?

If that is true then maybe those interested should wait to get the dual lens kit even if you do not need it. You can sell it off to those who want it cheaper than the SRP.

:(

You don't seem to be reading some of the above postings... my friend

You can utilise the $300 voucher to offset the purchase for the other kit lens @ $99 more to make it into a dual kit later (available in July). That means the other kit lens is priced at $399/-

Thus simple calculation is $1199 + $99 + $300voucher = $1298/- (the net price you are actually paying)

That is equivalent to the RRP for dual kit lens package.

Thank u everyone for helping to answer my queries!

Ok here's my initial impression after taking some shots when the battey was fully charged.

- seems to perform quite snappy, shutter lag and af was fast enough for most condition except low light can be challenging at times but still better than most pns. Alhough not faster than phase detect of dslrs but for a contrast detect, its considered fast, though a tad slower than gf1 but should still be fine for moderate kids and pets shooting.
- menus are easy to navigate and very smooth and responsive. Gui is fantastic as never before on any cameras. Screen resolution is nothing but superb!
- within 5mins of playing with the menu, i kinda got used to it very soon so learning curve is very gentle and quite inituitive also.
- took a few shots of iso1600 and 3200 and seems to perform almost similar to a550 and also 550d (borrowed unit). Will post some shots soon.
- high iso picture quality is definitely better than gf1, esp obvious at iso1600 and beyond.

You spread so much virus later I cannot get mine...

Can be used to purhase any emount lenses.

I suggest you look on the Terms and Conditions on the back of the voucher. Can only purchase SEL1855 & SEL 16F28 from 9 June 2010 to 30 September 2010.

Cheers! :)

Dpreview has released the review of this camera on their website. I think it is not available in US yet.

At the same time, take a look on the sample pciture taken on the PnS Samsung EX1. It worth to consider too...
