Cannot tilt left and right though.

Yeah you can control the power of the flash thru the camera itself.

So far works okay indoors, haven't test it outdoors yet till I get my camera repaired (my filter got stucked)

Too bad cannot turn left and right, Metz 32-Mz2 can, very useful in portiat mode to bounce off the ceiling.

Is it capable of TTL on the F717?

I have a Metz 32-Mz3.. but I find the flash bigger and bulkier =p
but I dun have the adaptar so just using it as a autoflash. Don't know why
when using the flash, the pictures appeared too dark in indoors at jurong bird park.
Using internal flash is much better. I know TTL stands for Through the Len but what does
it actually do ? :dunno:

My F717 has some intermittent problem with the hotshoe, when using a hotshoe flash. sometimes it fires sometimes it does not.

Not sure if it is faulty, where is SONY's service center by the way?

Near commonwealth MRT.. at some HAR PAW techno something =p

You using the HVL F100 ?
Is it because the flash is still focusing and thats why it not firing ?
I think when you press the shutter halfway, you need to wait for the yellow dot
(above the flash icon) to stop blinking before you can take the photo ? :dunno:

It means the flash is able to vary it's "power" based on the metering or the calculation taken from the lens of the camera.

If you point your camera's lens at a very bright spot verus a dark spot, you should see the intensity of the flash change.

The F32X is supposed to do TTL, but I am not sure if the TTL is for the DSC-V1 using the 5-pin hotshoe or can it be enabled with the cable to the DSC-F717.

I was testing the camera with a Achiever flash, Vivitar 285HV and a Metz 32Mz-2 and after I tighten the shoe.

I tried to shoot the flash at vertical position, horizontal position, tilting it here and there and I noticed sometimes, maybe 2 or 3 times out of 20, the flash failed to fire (the flash was set to fire always).

That's why I give up and used the HVL-F1000 since it does not use hotshoe and use cable instead.

I suspect a hotshoe contact problem, but was worried if I sent in and they (SONY) say no problem then wasted my trip.

I see.. so how do i test it out ? fire a a bright spot and a dark spot and compared the picture ?

Does your flash goes off at the same intensity regardless of whether the subject is brightly lit or dark.

If you have to manually change the flash's intensity for indoor/outdoor, dark/bright. Then it's not really intelligent enough.

For the HVL-F1000, you cannot even decide the strength of the flash, you can only set the aperture and speed to compensate if the result is overexposed.

I got the 44MZ-2... only thing I miss about it is the swivel, otherwise it has much more control over the output than the 32 series.

I find that the Auto mode on Metz flashes exposes the scene very well even without the "TTL" on the Sony adaptor (which is why I didn't spend the extra $130).

It looks big but surprisingly is better balanced than the 32 series.

I always have been trying manual and never tried the auto but is there a difference ? I keep getting dark photos at outdoors in jurong bird park with the manual mode even though I am adjusting the zoom reflector.

1) You can leave the reflector at 35mm...
2) If you are using an omnibounce make sure you tilt the flash head UP so that the flash does not cut off early (because the light from the omnibounce WILL enter the flash sensor and make it cut)
3) Try removing the omnibounce and flash direct... aren't the birds quite some distance away? :D

By the way, what do you mean by "I've been trying the manual mode"? Does it mean you set the flash to "M"? It will fire at full power!
