Was thinking of going this week. How u shoot when u r wild n wet?
A77 and 70-300G at MFD, cropped at close to 100% . . .
Doubt that Canikon has any 300mm that resolve like this at close range. I know for sure that the 70-300 VR, the 300mm f/4 AF, and the 300mm f/4 AF-S can't.
looks like he almost pooped his pants.. lol.. great candid shots btwwith all these macro shots really makes me want to buy macro lens =)

really nice shot there. looking at the mtf charts, the 70-300vr is on par with the G lens and have the same 1:4 magnification. i think what you were missing back you had the d700 was the 12mp resolution.. now with the d800/E, you will have even higher croppability esp for macro works
The D700 surely lacks the detail of some of the newer bodies.
I also shot the 70-300 VR on a 12-mp crop sensor body, and--trust me--my copy was nowhere near as good as the 70-300G, neither in sharpness nor contrast. In fact, at f/5.6 and f/8 the 70-300G outresolves even the 300mm f/4 AF-S, both on the charts and in the real world.
Yup, the D800 would be a great option; but the a77's crop sensor extrapolated to FF would be around 56 MP! As long as I have some good glass out front I'll shoot through the middle of it all day long!![]()
Woke up early today while sending my wifey to bus stop to work and saw this full moon still up thought i've missed it last night. A77 + Tamron SP 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD and used the A77 feature 2X Teleconverter and crop a little bit more so this was jpeg out of camera sharpen a bit and adjust contrast.... Photo taken around 6:30AM April 8th
