hi, Actually I wanted a A900, do not know the noise level, so try on A 700 as a trial, presently is still pondering whether 5D mk II do better,no comparison.

Well, A900 does give more noise even when compared to the firmware refined a700 - but there are bugging problems with 5DMK2 - Think they hadn't fixed the highlight-black dot issue, as well there's some banding on 12800 and major banding on 25600... To some users, considered unacceptable. Grain yes - great for bw photos, but banding - makes your shot look like a poorly tuned Television image, so it's unacceptable for me, at least.

actually unless you pixel peep, ISO noise from alpha bodies are still acceptable

hi thought the kits lens was only 200 leh, may be lower hahahahah:bsmilie:

there r already few of them are selling their gears.money fly :bheart:

Thx for the information on ninja noise it really works very well. There shouldn't be any issues now. Awaiting for newer version from sony software for Alpha cams before upgrading. Also hope they will react fast enough for the upgrading.

i use NR softwares too, neat image.
great for reducing noise in flat areas, but i haven't found the optimal balance for low exposure high details high noise area.

but its great for sharpening too!

50mm f1.8 ? good, hope the quality is as good as previous Minolta.

Hi 50mm F1.8 , I thought it was a DT lens, Don't you think the 50mm f2.8 should be a better choice.;)

Hi sony people,

I'm thinking of buying an A900. Does anyone have an indication of recent local (singapore) prices for body alone?

If it's too sensitive to post, can PM me.

Thanks!

Regards.

Try getting a quote from the usual friendly shops. It should be slightly under $4k now.

Hi Imo the prices should be around $3750-3850:confused:any way try your luck.

i don't think it'll be cheap leh... probably $299 like the kit lens?

Street price would be lower than $299 which is really cheap for a fast lens... ok relative to the other consumer grade lenses...

Normally cameras are significantly more expensive in UK than in Singapore, however at the moment the A900 is cheaper in UK. I have never come across anything like this before.

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1028247
That £1,659, which includes 15% tax, is S$3649, if the tax is claimed back by a Singaporean visiting UK the price would be only S$3174.

Compare this with the Canon 5D MkII which is £2083 incl. tax. S$4583, (S$3985 exclusing tax).

I think that you guys are being sold short by Sony in Singapore.

What a great price! Even with shipping + GST it's still cheaper than buying it here.

I read somewhere that Sony customers/retailers here are discouraged from revealing the prices they paid/charged for their cameras. I could be wrong; can anyone confirm this? I think this may lead to less informed consumers, poorer prices and higher potential for being overcharged.

There must be a good reason for it since everyone, including consumers who stand to lose out the most, play along. ("what's good for the syndicate is good for the country" Milo Minderbinder, Catch22) :D

Anyway, not a big deal... it's just some clandestine asking around and thanks to the helpful folk on this forum, is not painful.

Thanks to all who have PM'ed me. I appreciate your information, which shall not be divulged. ;)

This is not about boasting or scoring points. I would expect to buy all photographic equipment cheaper in Singapore. Customers in UK have been ripped off by camera manufacturers/distributors ever since cameras were made in Eastern Asia. This is why the A900 being cheaper in UK is extremely unusual and worth mentioning. It suggests that the margins in Singapore are sufficient for the A900 to be cheaper in Singapore.

Why does the Sony forum not have an up-to-date list of all Sony camera & lens prices like they do in the Canon forum. Do you all work for camera shops or are you all scared of offending the dealers?

1,659 UKP with the current rate equals RM 8,739. Street price for the A900 in Malaysia is around RM 8,200.

That's a good price in Malaysia. And quite convenient to make the trip across the causeway too.

As for the UK price, you'd need to remove the VAT of 15% that's included in the 1659GBP. That would make it 1442.6GBP or 7,639.41MYR. Quite an incredible price.

Anyway, as for Singapore prices, could you all keep the PMs coming in? And do let me know also which shop you bought it from.

Thanks a million. :)
