Sony A7 with M mount lens

Ur VC 35 f1.2 is version 1 or 2? Version 1 samples varies widely, maybe becos of some so called special glass inside so version 2 came out with more consistent results lens to lens. But if u get a good copy of version 1 ......

I have made a quick landscape with my CV35/1.2 and with Cron-r 35 and I find the cron renders better but then again bro it might be me hehe so I will shoot more.

Issue I am seeing is the vignette, some banding (this is maybe due to flange distance? Or that time I was shooting JPEG not raw?) and slightly soft at the sides compare with cron-r 35.

or perhaps the lens doesn't fully resolve A7R's 36MP. I know it did very well on my A7, and should be good on the A7S!

No f/5.6 or f/8 shots... these r at f/4. Anyway, I would go with an UWA lens

Most welcome. It might not b d best 35mm around but for its price. Quite a bang for bucks kinda lens related to its performance.

No f/5.6 or f/8 shots... these r at f/4. Anyway, I would go with an UWA lens for landscape shots though...

I took a look at the largest sample on flickr.
Maybe f4 is not the optimum aperture for the above shot.
Its certainly good in the center, but 1/4 of the frame each side is certainly softer at f4.
Maybe f8, f11 will be ok.


For walk arounds and tours, I often find that I get to see the little things that catches one's attention and instead of just the shallow DOF approach, some shots need to capture the item in the full glory of its details (Eg. mural on a wall; the textures of a rusty door, etc).
Other times, its just to get an all sharp (full of details to pore over ) shot of buildings, cars, etc.


More of a A7 problem than a lens problem, since many of the RF lenses have had good track records on film.

version 2 bro I need to test more it maybe the user problem hehe.. no time to do landscape lately busy @ work :-(. But typically I shoot at 1.2 with this lens haha center sharpness is great

A7r is very harsh on lenses, esp on the sides when there is field curvature and/or lower resolution.
That was also what the early users of the D800e found out.
Their old lenses which were good on D700 was no longer the same on D800e.

Good point...I haven't shot it at f/8... but most lenses should be sharp across the frame at f/8 anyway.

I read about this also in some other forum... I'll do more testing versus my Cron-R 35 and CV35 see what's the difference but I do fee there's something odd with my CV images. will try to find if I still have that sample pix I made before

I agree completely. The A7r sensor most likely out resolved all old legacy lenses, which was designed for film anyway. That was why I feel (feel as I have not tried the A7s) the A7s is the best A series camera for legacy lenses at the moment. I have set my eyes on A7s, just waiting for the right time to buy after I try. And my GCR M mount aint doing so badly to push me over yet

I just got hold of my CV 35mm F1.2 II last night, haven't had time to test properly on a a tripod, but the lens gets edge to edge sharp @ F4-5.6 at infinity, but this was based on a high iso test (iso 6400-12800), will know better about critical sharpness when i do the tripod low iso test.

Albertri is right, the lens is already super sharp in the centre at F1.2, which is what i would use it most often at in low light, corners need stopping down to improve, which is quite common for fast lenses. (apart from the exceptional ones like the otus and sigma art 50)

I though the V1 was known to be very good as well, just there may be some sample variations where hazing is an issue that impacts IQ. Even my V2 version, I had to test 2 copies before getting it as the 1st copy was misaligned with the left portion of the image much sharper than the right portion.

both V1 and V2 have aspherical elements right?
