Whoa, care to share some tips? I look up and can't find a single star at times.

Nice milky way shot!

i also cannot see any hint of the milky way with my naked eye. i am just aiming my camera blindly towards the milky way direction as shown on star maps apps on my iphone. I purposely overexpose the image based on the ETTR (Expose to the Right) method as shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?index=12&v=J1Kfr8RG3zM&list=FLl3XxAcSQnHah81Vk3-DoNg&app=desktop. of course have a clear sky without clouds is the best. have a lot of stars or not(seen from the eye) is not that important because all the stars will appear after all the post process.

see my reply above :)

as what others have said, awesome! i saw some SG milkyways posted recently and also tried doing it with my UWA lenses. but it captures too much of the light pollution to be usable.

perhaps i shall give it a shot using a 35mm or even 50mm lesn too!

i think u need to point/aim your camera as high up to the sky as possible. the lower towards the horizon, the more light pollution and it is harder to post process. it is ok to be overexposed, as long as the white is not clipped. U should stick with your UWA because it allows you to have a longer exposure time without star trails.. this will help in lower ISO image.. I tried using my 20mm, but it is too wide and parts of my window is in the image, so i changed to the 35mm. :)

How is the sigma 35 mm art compared to the FE 35 mm f2.8?

no idea for me, cos never used the 35mm 2.8 before.. for almost the same price, it is a no brainer to get the sigma if want a good and fast (3 stops difference) lens, but if size is more important, then the FE 35mm...

These are random test shot feeling the lens Focus throw :-) I just notice the A7r when using this lens tend to meter it on the negative side so must push the EV maybe +0.7 or if you shooting center can use spot or center metering... since I focus center then re-frame my shot I meter on the subject then do EA-Lock..
