Guys... just wondering... Are old lenses like Minolta 28-105/3.5-4.5 and 70-210/4 a good marriage with the A7 or are modern lenses from Sony or Zeiss a better performer? Or am I better off waiting for the new FE 24-70 and 70-200?

It depends how u define what is good to u? It's different preferences for different ppl. If the FE is made by Zeiss, I m sure it will be razor sharp and with the signature Zeiss colours. I dunno about G lenses so I can't comment. The Minoltas I have tested so far, I love their colours and rendering, might not be the sharpest of the lot like the Pentax legacy lenses of the same focal length and aperture. You should google more or test some of the lenses you are interested in during our session tomm to see.

I agree with bro Thoth, minolta lens has their own character. Depend on what you want really. If you want sharp , contrasty images like the 35mm FE, you should wait for the new lenses.

If you want to know more about the minolta lenses , go to dxyum forum and look at the alpha lenses database reviews of all alpha lens . So far, the minolta beer can is doing great on the A7 . I don't have the 24-105, so can't comment

I have read quite a bit and there have been good reviews of the lenses from Kurt Munger and Ken Rockwell (I know Ken has a reputation of being bias towards a certain brand) but like you said, it depends on how the person define good as. I understand that older lenses may not perform like modern lenses. What I like to know is if they do well on A7/R because there haven't been much images on the internet with the combo i'm looking at (well at least I haven't seen any).

Vibranze told me about the place. it's a gruelling 45 minute climb up steep steps... so don't attempt it if you out of shape. sure kena gao gao leg cramps

Look thru posts here tat I've shared using d Minolta 58/1.2 MC Rokkor lens. I can say, yes. Minolta Rokkors works superbly on d A7/Rs. U haf to make d final judgement yourself bro. For UWA, I will definitely get d FE Zeiss 16-35 when it comes.

Ah.... that's what i'm talking about.... Good to hear that the beer can is doing great on A7.

I'm not one who's good with the technicalities so having to look at all the MTF charts, etc, hurts my eyes and brain. Having shot film and the luxury of playing with quite a bit of M-mount lenses, I do understand the differences between modern and old lenses... I just wanna hear from users if they like how the 2 lenses fare on A7/R and not so much of being clinically sharp or zero distortion. Maybe I should search harder for images of the combo.

The 58/1.2 is definitely on my list but what I am looking now is zoom lens with AF capabilities for ease of use.

The FE16-35 sounds interesting and I believe it should do good for my landscape uses..
