Tks for confirming... So which one r u getting?

Conclusion. The 50/1.4 is no 58/1.2 but if you need to bite it,
for CB sake, it is only 1/10 the price of 58/1.2. Can do lah. Personally, I would not consider it. There are other 50mm that would have more character.

the 50mm is not a bad lens, just not 'legendary' or 'creamy' . Comparing to a lens 10 times of its value, will be surprised if no noticeable differences.

Value is d perceived benefit or gain. Sometimes u can't just justify monetarily.

I never shoot with ISO more than 1000 in the past with all my cams because I was never happy with the result. For this one, i tried ISO3200, F2, 1/500, 90mm, cropped, I am satisfied with it.

hi,is it possible to show the full image to get a rough gauge how much u cropped?
any PP or noise reduction done? Thanks.

another advantage of the 58mm, 8 aperture blades against 6 on the 50mm.. can stop down while maintain the blur circular highlight better. Anything beside f1.4 on the 50mm will show hexagon shape.

It was appended.

It is an ok lens, nothing special about it nor is it any bad. Just that I have other 50mm so I wouldn't choose this. It is my personal opinion. For the price of 50/1.4, it is a steal. If someone steals your A7, you can use this lens to throw at him. This lens is built like a Rock even though it is not the flag ship lens of Minolta MD.

The price of 58/1.2 is no longer justifiable, IMO. It is in the region of USD450 a couple of years ago. Of course, demand drives the price upwards as with all other stellar lenses.

Not unless there is a misprint on the Minolta's lens barrel ;p

Two shots with the Pentax FA77/1.8 Limited

This lens is about the size of a 50mm f1.8, which obviously cannot be shown in the picts, but adds to its easy of portability in my camera bag.

How do you adapt the FA? I am under the impression that it does not have manual aperture. The FA ltd version are all tiny lenses which mate well with A7 even with a long adapter.

Ages bk. ppl r saying d same when Noct Nikkor 58/1.2 and Canon FD 55/1.2 SSC AL hits 1k usd tat d prices r not justifiable. Haha. Now they r even more so. But there r alwayz willing buyers to buy n keep these legendary lenses as the good copies gets rarer.

Seriously? I think I managed to get even closer than tat indicated MFD. Maybe I got a lemon??

Not sure which 50mm minolta lens you guys are referring to. But for the price i paid for my MC 50/1.4 PG, i am quite satisfied.

Just a PK to NEX adapter.
The FA series of lenses have an aperture ring.
Its the DA series of lenses that don't have an aperture ring.
For those, it will need an adapter than can control the aperture lever.

IMO, sometimes we tend to look too far.
To some elusive RF and pricey 75mm or Biotar, Priomotar.
But when I used the 77ltd the other day, I realized that I already had something along that vein, that is available new with modern coatings.
Still thinking of a Biotar/Primotar off course. :D

The FA limiteds are all full metal build and small for their focal lengths.
Very nice fit to the small form factor of the A7.

I remembered back in those days when a Noctilux 1.2 was changing hands at $6k and I thought that was nuts...now I would happily paid twice that amount for one haha. A more recent example is the Canon 50/0.95 "Dream Lens"...very few takers from a couple of years back at $400 now it's a $2.5K lens. Supply vs Demand guys :dunno:
