Congrats on your new purchase. Since, you've already bought the cam, just use it and stop thinking of the price anymore. I can see that you are staying at Tiong Bahru which is quite close to my place. Maybe we can have a short outing one of these days.

Thank you. And yes, I intend to enjoy myself and not worry about price any more. Which is why I didn't wait for PC show to see if there are good offers.
At the moment I only have the kit lens and still a lot to learn.

No worries, we are all here to learn from each other. Anyway, the Sony kit lens is one of the best kit lenses.

Anyone saw the PDF file posted on Sony Sg site for the PC show? They just state FREE GIFT?!?! What gifts are they giving?
Same as all PC shows, you get free gifts that are worthless and you'd never have paid for anyway.
My advice... If you really want to get a Sony cam, go to MS Color, talk to Florence, tell her you were thinking about getting at PC Show because of freebies, and I'm sure she can make you a better deal.

One of the best deal was recently when I bought A300 Limited edition. It comes with:
1) 2 additional battery (one comes from AMFM11 valuepack below)
2) SZ tripod
3) 2x 4GB Sandisk Ultra II CF
4) AMFM11 bag
When I bought my A700, guess what I get:
1) Standard triangle bag
2) Nothing
3) nothing
4) still nothing.
I don't see tha rationale though, A700 should has bigger margin = more freebies.

Consumer-grade cams make for the greatest sales, so it's a very hotly contested segment of the market. That's why there's such an aggressive push for these lower-end cams. More freebies to entice the casual snapper/hobbyist, eventual price slashes, etc.
For those who are thinking of getting either the EOS40D, D300 or A700, they will get it based on decisions made about the cameras, so it's my guess small freebies are not likely to sway decisions. (I will concede though, that Olympus does give away attractive freebies for their E-3).
