Sony A33

honestly i think the 1/3 loss isnt a deal breaker la, high iso performance isn't the only indicator for camera performance as well.

AF accuracy and speed, AF tracking , metering accuracy , white balance etc are equally important.

what i am interested to know from the a33 owners bro is , hows the battery life ! haha

So any comments on batt life usage so far ?

Batter life is avg abt 300+ per charge, quitr simar to nex.

As i mentioned in another thread, for a full time live view camera, it is considered reasonable for its size and weight.

Even a500 can only take abt 500 or so when used in live view only.

Most bridge, m4/3 or even canon 550d or nikon of similar category also range from 300-400 when using only live view.

So nothin to complain about. How can we expect something small, powerful and fast and yet wants good battery life???

hmm i was hoping it to be better than nex as the EVF would probably save some juice with the lcd just showing the settings.

LCD would be turned off when the eye is at the EVF right ?

Battery life concern came from the fact that A33/55 using the same battery as nex and was abit puzzled why sony didn't use back the M series batteries for DSLR.

not expecting the best of everything la , just want to know if its better than nex

One person on DPR reported shooting close to 800+ pictures with the A33... Because he din't constantly stop and review his pics. Remember, the CIPA standard involved picture reviewing, using the flash, etc. If you don't do all that, the batt lasts much longer.

Yes, lcd is off when eyes near evf but still the view is provided by the main sensor which means the main sensor is always live.

Not like a500/550 where in ovf, the main sensor is not needed. Even during live view, the live view sensor is actually smaller in size and do not consume as much energy as main sensor, thats where the savings are.

Of course many would claim why sony didnt include vg for a33/55. But i would think since these cams are targeted at casual users, size and weight is most importand and vg is not needed for them too.

Leave all these battery and vg to the a77 instead. ;)

Can I ask for advice from bros who own A33..if i getting just 1 walkabout lens, which will be a better choice to go w A33 - tammy 17-50 or SAL18250? saw SAL18250 as a kit package w e body at SONY STYLE at a gd price $1499. I own tammy 17-50 b4 but not SAL18250, abit worried it will have probs focusing indoor if used without flash. One has low light while the other has range...its like deciding btw left and right hand to chop

Wow! Thats a good price for package. Hmm, probably the rumour of 18250sam is coming sooner than expected.

Seriously, for outdoor, 18250 without questions. Tamron is not long enough. For indoor, its not really bright enough as well. 35/1.8 will be good for indoor nonflash shots.

Use 18250 with flash for indoor or prime lenses without flash.

However if u hv budget, go for sigma 18250 os hsm. It enables you to take longer (with lens os) and quieter (lens hsm) videos with a33.

Sony Style at Orchard Central also has the same deal. Other freebies include 8GB card, bag and camera workshop. Also one can buy another lens at $100 off. Offer valid till end of Sept. I was told the warranty will be 2 years also. Sounds like good deal.

these are the reasons not going to Sony showrooms lols a lot of poison:lovegrin::devil:

I tried both mode, normal flash and fill-in. Both also have the same problem.

Not sure if this helps but when I fire off my pop up flash it will always throw a pre flash follow by the main flash/ shutter

Is that what you are experiencing ?

Why didn't anyone compliment about its multiframe Noise Reduction and Handheld Twilighth capabilities? ITS DAMN GOOD!~!!~ Anyway, does anyone know if this little devil is splash-proof? I read my manual it did not state... It just state do not leave it in the sun for too long... My guess will be it is not splash-proof due to no gasket on the battery cover... (fingers crossed!~)

Depends on the size of the splash. ;)

From my experience, getting caught in a drizzle for a few seconds is no issue at all.

Extracted from the manual: under On memory card, notes on recording and playback
This camera is neither dust-proof,
nor splash-proof, nor water-proof.

SSSSSSSSSSSsssshhhh ! ;) better keep quiet about this secret otherwise every other Camera on the market will also have the same feature ! ...dun think Sony patented their MFNR and HHT technologies :bsmilie:

Their in-cam HDR feature already kena copied, so is their smile shutter (Wink shutter?) ....

Wondered which will be the next camera to sport an on screen leveling gauge or full time PDAF for video ...or even, heavens forbids ...a pellicle mirror !!!:sweatsm:

Hi bro, seems the W battery is to reduce the size of the grip, the M battery would serve larger cam bodies... :) So if a77 does come out using the M battery, the batt life would be much longer.
