yes it is 1/3 stop.. actually the weight and length is indeed bothering me abit...
oh yes sorry it is one third of a stop. got a little confused there. haha actuallly i think it would be rather manageable. its not like a 70-200 2.8 which apart from weight and length, has a huge diameter too. so i guess its alright.

Oh... Do give your comments comparing the 2 of them after u got it. ;)

The sharpness for the 55-200 is great. It is sharp wide open and throughtout the whole range and focusing is very fast and accurate. The only issues is that the color is a bit cold, which can be easily solved with a little PP. For the weight and price, I would say go for the 55-200. Why don't just first get the 55-200 and if you don't find it good enough, then sell off and the the beercan. You won't lose much if any.

oh.. true.. the 70-210 do offer much better length.. still deciding among this 3.. haha..

another thing about the 100-200mm is that the MFD is 1.9m so anything nearer than that you cant shoot. :(

thats the only thing keeps it from being perfect for me, but im still happily using it as my portrait lens

yeah but the 100-200 you wont usually use it indoors anyway, so its not really a big downside on my part. if im not wrong the beercan is about 1.1m?

haha yeah i agree with you its a good portrait lens, gives you a nice distance between you and the subject, while keeping a shallow DOF for background blur.

another redeeming factor about getting the beercan, Canon has its 70-200 f4 which is about 2k? and much larger. the beercan is much much cheaper. not brand bashing or anything, just stating a fact.

hmm. i think i may go for 100-200 first.. if its not good enough then i may buy the beercan.. but as for reviews i had seen, it seems like the 100-200 and beercan perform just as well.. but why is the beercan the only popular one?

Btw, do shops still carry sony 55-200SAM? i cant find this lens in sony.com.sg.. issit part of the pwp thingy?

Anyone tried the 70-210 f3.5-4.5?

Its a third faster on the short and a third slower at the end than the beercan. This cost less than beercan, but also weights much less!

Certainly beats the 55-200 imo

hmm.. dyxum review shows that its not better than both the beercan and 55-200SAM though.. the build quality is bad..

For sure get the beercan. If possible send it in for a final servicing before Sony terminates maintenance for Minolta lenses.

Dooh this pool,
now I'm on regret selling my beercan :dunno:

Beercan FTW! Used to have it but sold it for 70-300G and now after reading this thread, it makes me want to buy it again. ;)

wow the transparent beercan so damn cool!!!

$100 bucks different i ll sure go for 55200

can i add more confusion to ur choice? haha

Actually minolta 75-300mm(big beercan) also not bad.. almost same price as beercan.

Focusing speed quite fast & with the focusing lock its even faster.

Was considering of getting that initially too... lol:embrass:

haha.. i don't have so much cash for the transparent one though.. even the $100 is quite a big sum to a student like me..thats why started this thread..
