Sony 30mm f3.5 Thread

What is the effective working distance for this lens? If too short, it will limit the macros to flowers and still life. Already an effective focus distance of about 20cm is scaring off most fast moving critters.

I doubt this lens is meant for people who want to hunt insects.

i've taken macros of dragonflies that are less than 10cm from my lens. it's your technique and approach to the insect that needs working on

Sure, I did that as well with my copy. Just saying I doubt most buyers intend to use this glass for that.

For insects, best to use around a 90mm macro lens or greater.

Yeah. Well, the 30mm Macro is a great walk-around lens. You don't need to worry about closest focus distance. It can be quite frustrating if you hit a wall at a few dozen of cm.

Wohooo! Just got the 30mm, feels so at home with the focal length and the ability to focus close up.

Where did u buy from and how much?

hi all,

I just got this lens. Realised that it makes a noise whenever I focus or switch from playback to shoot. Sounds like the focusing. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Was wondering if I got a bad unit.

for casual shooting under close up =)

Picked it up from Paris Silk. $310 or $316 with credit card. Here's a pic. More will be in the 5N thread
