Hee hee, thks Galdor! Nice place but pockets burnt big time... Thks for ur suggestions, indeed i m considering 11-18mm + 16-105mm / 18-250mm... Was hesitating abt the 18-250mm cos yesterday when i went to John 3:16, they actually give me tat kind of words like "WHY 18-250mm???" I was abit shock by his expression n reactions. He highly recommended the 16-105mm though... Btw, talking abt tripod, u tink its neccessary? Thks for the help n advices!

i find john 3:16 abit...uhm..thinks consumers are stupid one...i mean..they have their viewpoint..and each of us have ours...

Just my 2 cents worth..... I got the opposite reply from ca***y . The 18-250 lens is much more popular than 16-105....
Eventually I bought the 18-250 lens..... I find it useful especially when i need to take photo of cast members on stage.... eg. Disney Parade, Hello Kitty.....
from a far.... Or when I need to take picture of my children performing on stage, the 105mm would not be enough.

IMHO, the 18-250 lens is a more versatile walk around lens, especially if you have the intention to purchase a 11-18 mm lens and have no intention to purchase the 75-300mm lens.

Jammer

Agree if the 11-18 is in your consideration as well... the 11-18 is pretty expensive lor... about $700+ I think...

Honeymoon in Europe, wow that's really nice. And congratulations to you.

For Europe trips, I would recommend a wider lens. The 11-18mm + 16-105mm or 11-18mm + 18-250mm combo would be ideal. If budget is a concern, then the 11-18mm with the kit lens would do too. Maybe can get a cheapo 50mm f1.7 or 50mm f1.4 to go along for low light shots too. I dun think you'll be lugging your tripod right?

I carried a tripod along this June, but I didn't use it... cos there is AS on my 7D... plus just take many shots... cherry pick the sharp one lor... my lenses were KM 17-35mm f/2.8 - 4 plus Tamron 24-135 SP f/3.5-5.6... both not exactly very fast lenses... but at f/5.6 at a focal length of 135mm and shutter speed of 1/10s, still can get decent shots...

Each lens has it's own sweet spot and advantage. The 18-250mm is great as a all-in-one lens giving you a wide-mid-tele range and saves you the trouble of changing lens but the image quality will lose out to the 16-105mm, so it still voice down to what you want and what you need. In the past I used to travel with a 17-35mm, 28-70mm & a 70-210mm lens. Then I realised that I don't really use my 70-210mm lens so I decided to change my setup to a 17-35mm, 35-135mm & a 50mm fast lens. If I have a chance to travel now, I will probably bring a 11-18mm & a 17-50mm only or 11-18mm, 17-35mm & a 35-135mm. As for tripod, it really depends on you, some people would find it troublesome (including myself) since your trip is your honeymoon, your priority is to enjoy yourself and probably take some photos for remembrance. However, if your trip is solely for photography I would highly recommend a tripod.

Good combination bro.

The Tamron 24-135mm is a very sharp lens when there is sufficient light. Enjoyed using that lens and still keeping it.

Since it's a honeymoon... just pack up the DSLR and carry a trusty point and shoot lor... recommend the Sony W300... hahaha... leave the tripod at home lar...

And, seriously if I had a full frame, then 17-35 and 24-135 is a very ideal combo... :)

HI TME,

You read my mind man.... I hope to buy the Tamron 10-24mm .... and perhaps the 50mm 1.4 when i have the money. When I go for travelling with my family, i just bring along 18-250 lens with a monopod, no big camera bag, no extra lens, no fl-42 flash. Even then other people around me thought that it is very troublesome with I use the monopod to shoot low light scenes....Tripod, unthinkable.. they will move on and leave me behind.....

I used a small (125cm, 520g) tripod for my PnS when I travel light.... the good part is that it can hold a max of 1 kg and when folded it is only 28.5cm... ;)

But it would not hold my dslr...

Think tripod might be useful when want to take many pictures of you and your wife together in one frame. Else, you will be having to disturb strangers around u to take pictures of you both together. Also, for night shots / low light shots tripod can be a lot of help.

John 3:16 still selling Sony stuff?

meng, why not the carl zeiss 16-80? just throw in $300 more, you get a Carl Zeiss :P

Anyone knows the latest price of the tamron / Sony 18-250 lens.

I see the used sony 18-250 goes for around 600$ in the forum.

Last price for new lens i knew was 675$, for the sony version (after 10% discount).

Hi guys, thks for all the advices. Sorry, was kind of busy lately and missed alot of replies over here.

Hi Galdor/TME/senthiljams, actually i m still considering abt the tripod issue though both me n my wife r quite reluctant abt it. But i wouldnt want to miss any nice nite shots too.

Hi ninelives, John 3:16 still selling Sony stuff but they dun stock up, must ask them to order. But the price is slightly cheaper only, for example when i asked them to quote me the 18-250, they quoted me $730 n Sony selling $759. Ha ha, i jus managed to get a 2nd hand carl zeiss 16-80 from one of the forumer here.;)

I managed to get a 2nd hand Tamron 11-18 too. Now only considering whether to get a 75-300 (cheaper version though i m leaning more towards the 70-300 G Lens but too costly:sweat:).

Have a great weekend ahead guys!

u got a cz now :bsmilie:... think u wont be satisfied with the 75-300 IQ

hi guys,

im too stuck between the sony lenses mentioned and with somewhat similar reason for lens change, and too, needs some real advice. Currently im using the trusty kit len(18-70), which i will continue to use it (lens change not an inconvience to me), and is getting another telephoto one to compliment it, hopefully another fast lens. i also spend the rest of my free time taking some close-up shots.

I frequent Sarawak/Sabah.

Currently staring:what: at the following:
-18-250
-75-300 (being told abt super low image quality)
-500mm reflex (cheap super telephoto compared to G lenses... have good reviews on IQ)
-16-105 maybe for those sudden needs for speed (wide angle shots i mean)

and for some shots in a room.....
-SAL28
-SAL50

budget is tight so can only buy only one of them -.-..... somemore thinking of getting GPS(SGD299):(

oh ya.. another aspect which i feels impt to me ish.... IQ ... hehe(i think that refers to image quality right)... and im confused about why DT lenses are not advised to be used on Full-frame SLR?... how abt non-DT on APS?

please help this newbie in need..... Thanks!!!!!

my walkabout now is the 18-250
very happy with it so far... not as sharp as a prime of course... abit soft on the long end, but still better than the kit lens~ and not having to change lens is convenient~
i got a 50mm f/1.4 for lowlight~

thought of getting a cz 16-80 and a 70-300G combo... but no budget at the moment ahahah... so they will have to wait :bsmilie:

Ha ha, tatz wat i thought too. But might wanna try out the cheaper version first cos i might not need such zooming distance so frequently. Meanwhile look out for some gd deals if anyone letting go their 70-300 G.;)
