First builds of Mac OS X 10.5.1 pack over two dozen fixes

" Mac OS X 10.5.1 will also deliver a significant number of bug fixes relating to Leopard's email client, namely corrections to Mail syncing, HTML anchors, Email alarms, To-Do Notes, and smart mailboxs.

In total, build 9B13 includes well over two dozen fixes and code corrections, those familiar with the software say, and addresses an issue present when moving files across partitions -- possibly one and the same with the widely publicized Finder data-loss bug. "

It's good that they're finally addressing a data loss problem that's existed since 10.3. Also important is that they're fixing the swiss cheese-like firewall. Maybe, Skype will work again.

Then again, I keep feeling that I should have stayed with my original plan to wait for 10.5.3. I just bought an upgrade to Photoshop CS3 since neither version I had worked or worked correctly.

10.5.1 is available through Software Update and as a Standalone version. The technical notes are here.

That's not an Apple product, it says "High Quality Earphones". ;)

Since something ate my last post today, I guess I'll mention it again.

There are new versions, including a beta, of Skype for Mac OS X that work with the new, enhanced firewall.

Mozilla Firefox is working better now. The text rendering is quite a bit improved due to Leopard. Note that Apple improved Safari's text by doing something special rather than notifying the operating system people so everyone would have better text. If you're using Mozilla products, they've been updated this week.

I ended up buying an upgrade to Photoshop CS3 but I'm wondering, after all the work the Adobe developers did, why it is that Photoshop takes 3-5 % CPU when idle unlike the 0 % that a good Mac OS X application should.

They updated the Flash browser plug-in today.

In any case, my Leopard experience is improving due to lots of little updates from third party developers. It will be nice when almost all of my third party applications are running correctly again. Now, if Apple can fix all the things that they broke...

if they can solve the USB problem that my good friend Acidbyte is having permanently, I will upgrade.
