So many 50 Summilux Version 2 for sale

Hey guys,
Just been wondering after looking around for awhile for 50mm lenses for my Leica M, I have been seeing so many 50mm Summilux Version/Type 2 for sale. Does anyone know why there are so many? Or is it just me drawing empty links?

Production run from 1961 to early 91 I think... So many in circulaytion. When they introduce the Asph version, many want to sell off and buy asph . That my guess.

I like V2 as it is pre-asph (sharpness is overrated in some scenarios), Mandler designed and at a price point where it's not that super expensive say compared to V3 or Asph.

alot of ASPH selling also. its not just the v2.

So many people are selling because they are cashing in on the crazy prices that Leica glass commands. Last year you could buy a version 2 for as low as $1200 - $1400. Now most are going for over $2000 - $2800. Look at the price of a new 50 ASPH (latest version) asking anything from $5500 -$$6000 plus when the actual cost is under $5000 if you can get hold of it from a shop.

As long as they is a demand and supply is short, prices will be healthy. It just depends how long people are willing to pay crazy prices instead of waiting.

I prefer sapphire crystal on my mechanical watch really.

The answer is only a definite - YES.

Leica lenses has a strong hand in the inflation index in mainland China... probably second to the property prices in Shanghai.

Well that is interesting, thanks for all your responses, somehow seems unreal to release a new lens, probably not a good business move if they can't even keep up to current model stock, I guess they would want to clear and suck out all the interest from this model first.

Maybe what he's trying to say is that compared to the past few months, there have been more of these lenses that have come onto the buy/sell section recently.
