Small bird and big bird....

I have tried both lenses out in the field about two and a half years ago and bought tammy in the end. Below are the reasons I've settled for tammy:
- cheaper
- much lighter (when is comes to bird photography, you will definately walk for hours, climbing hills, cheonging into forested areas and etc. so the lighter your equipments, the merrier)
- Personally feel that AF speed is a bit faster although the motor is more noisy
- Coating of the lens doesn't peel off like those of bigma
- Optical sharpness quite the same for both lenses thou
- The absence of image stabilizer is not ready an issue for me coz 95% of the time I shoot with tripod. Getting constant good handheld shots is possible once you got used to the equipment, its just a matter of practising.

Try the 50-500mm before, it is heavy and slow, its coating will peel after some usage. I also hear a lot of negative comment on bigma so end up i never get it.

Thank you for the info.

I was considering between the bigma and Nikon AFS 300 f/4 some time back. Had a brief 5 mins encounter with the Bigma and felt the AF is a bit slow, and I also don't like the zoom from one end to the other, a lot to turn. In the end go straight for the 300 f/4. I have never touch or see the tammy before so could not comment on how I feel about this lens. ;)
