Sry, but out of curiousity, may i know what is the ball head use for in this case?

Issit becos it is becos the ball head will be able to allow some functions which the original tripod is unable to do?

Thx,
Revolution. :D

it's just a cheap wat of getting a ballhead ;p The ballhead allows very fast adjustment of the camera direction.

it seems like it will topple easily using the extented ballhead?

nope. the ballhead is strong enough to hold the camera. I think 1kg of equipment is fine. anymore and it's anybody's guess....

I do not know why , but i can not see the all idea by a possitive eye ..

I guess that i have to stick in the Manfrotto threads .. :D

hmm... don't really catch what you mean.... :dunno:

do you mean that you'll stick with using Manfrotto tripods and heads instead of the workaround I used?

What i was only try to say is that , i do not have the feelling that this idea is really safe and stable ..

But if it works for you , then this is what it count's most ..

agree that getting a proper tripod that supports ballhead is the best ;p mine was just a lightweight workaround (total less than 1.3kg for both the tripod and head) which is definitely not suitable for big lenses or cameras.

I think the weak point is in the QR plate itself... the pan head is usually not very strong, unlike a base head pin only... dun think the tripod will topple as long its own specced weight limit is kept..

Can the manfrotto tripod change to ball head one? Can i just change the centre column? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance :D

what about the 390?

which one are you referring to? There're some manfrotto tripods with fixed head (e.g. 719B).
