Slides "scanning" with Nikon ES-1

Hi all, anyone tried using Nikon ES-1 on their macro lenses to 'scan' their slides?
Is the quality acceptable? Accurate reproduction of the vibrant colors?

i have had this for a while, but haven't done slide copies using it for a while. more recently, i have used the same setup to digitize my b&w instead.

i have a short write-up here on the nikon setup used... it can also be done on canon with the right lenses and adaptors. it copies 1:1 and you can shoot RAW to give yourself more flexibility in processing.

of course, quality of the output depends on the sensor (details and dynamic range) and lens... the quality of the slide / negative is also important, as the small details in the setup (e.g. flat slides, good back lighting, etc). the output might not be in the league of the top-end scanners, but it is a viable alternative for good quality "instant" scans.

can meet to let you try it out for your slides.

Hey thanks Cactus Jack! The quality seem good for web. Thanks for offering to let me try... will take that offer after the holidays hehe..

Hi Cactus Jack, would your recommend this over the Coolscan? My scanner is having some problem and I am deciding if I want to send it for repair or get the ES-1. Moreover, like you said, the scanning time of the Coolscan is a pain. Thank you.

it really depends on what you're trying to get. if i was looking for best quality scans, i would likely prefer a dedicated film scanner.

do read up this thread, as idea is similar - http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/slr-compacts/982286-flat-bed-scanner-9000f-vs-dslr-scanning.html

How can this apply on scanning 35mm negatives? I saw someone had to sand away some material at the sides of the holder.
