Slide/Film Scanner

Research/Developing cost and number of sales that cost some software price on the high/very high side. Specialist software cost even more as not many developer jump in for R/D.

In the 90's Kodak prohercy system = USD 35,000.00 for colour/tone retouching and correction.
crossfield colour studio cost USD 80,000.00

Photoshop v1.5 only S$1,000

Although I can see the difference in the blend/gradation quality, software interface, professional requirement and precision, my pocket is not deep enough.
Anyway I think we need some knowledge and wisdom to know the product before we purchase or conclude that is cheap or expensive. :)

yes, u can still get them locally. Try any Nikon dealer and ask them to call Nikon agent, you can still order it but waiting may be 3-4 months. I just got my recently.

If you have use SilverFast you would have know how much better is it to VueScan, although I still can't afford, been using the demo version haha!

How good I don't know yet, but the Nikon 9000 price for silverfast is far more expensive than those flatbed and plustek. so far vuescan is ok, maybe the silverfast is better? I don't know. At the Vuescan can work with both my nikon 9000 and Canon flatbed. But for silverfast, you have to pay twice.

I used both Silverfast and Vuescan with my Plustek. Honestly i am too noob to see what makes Silverfast better. I think they are both confusing. I did some research into scanning but omg the topic of scanning is really cheem and boring compared to other aspects of analog photography like development and shooting. In the end i just acquired a basic grasp of scanning and some lightroom tweaks. Rest of my time concentrate on learning abt camera and developing film.

I used vuescan instead of silverfast coz vuescan interface is less messy.

It is sad that scanning software and hardware is not really a growth area i doubt got many ppl RD how to improve scanning film

Art is irrational, but scanning is "Art with rational".

Scanner develop since 40's and at the peak in the 80's. Both hardware and software near the limits of theory at that time. Cost about S$1,000,000.00 a unit (1 million).
In deep knowledge require for both film and scanner. If you have camera/photography publication in those days, you can tell the print quality.
Long story, when I have some time and settle down the old scanner I bought 2 years back (still looking for a room to install, weight half a ton) then see see.:):)
